Joyful greetings to you! We are thrilled to share 2017 progress in all four countries which UCE serves.

KASESE, UGANDA

UCE co-founders, Drs. Kim and Ken Dernovsek, visited Uganda in March. They met with leaders, spoke on the radio, gave medical updates, and attended outreaches with the regional teams in Kasese and Masaka. This week, one student wrote a seven-page testimony thanking UCE for its intervention in their lives, describing how profoundly the ministry has changed their futures,"We have known through UCE to make a decision to abstain from sex. It is a choice we decided to make it our hearts, and we have not kept quiet about it. Thank you UCE for the love." Additionally, the Diocese of Kasese wrote, " We thank the almighty God who granted a safe journey to an d from Uganda to our special God-given visitors from USA, Drs.  KIM and KEN. We  are humbled by their visit and the great work they did while  in Uganda. During the month of March, Kasese witnessed 872 young people sign chastity cards.

MASAKA, UGANDA

200 miles away in Masaka, our other Ugandan team is also thriving. Drs. Kim and Ken visited this team as well, where they went on outreaches for six consecutive days. Despite the fact that their vehicle broke down twice, the group made it to every outreach and had 2,336 students sign chastity cards. That's a productive week! At one particular outreach at St. Aloysius Secondary School, the outreach closed with praise and worship, where the song "I Surrender All" was a hit. Many of you will recognize it. Fr. Deus, the program director of the UCE Masaka team, is doing an excellent job in his new role.

BURUNDI

The Burundi team is excited to receive a visit from the UCE Africa Director, Isaac Lema, in the month of June. In the meantime, they continue to conduct outreaches and especially minister through the radio. Reverend Onesiphore spoke on Star FM and extended an invitation that many are waiting to hear: "If you haven't yet signed a UCE card, it is not too late for you. Keep praying about it." This is an important message because it is up to one's free will to accept and live this drastic lifestyle change. The Ministry of Education in Burundi conducted a series of testings to see how the rates of HIV were in comparison to the previous year. The Diocese of Makamba saw the greatest reduction in HIV positive results, and only one girl out of the 2000 who were tested returned positive.

TANZANIA

In a matter of just 30 short days, the Tanzania team managed to conduct 42 outreaches in the Mwanga school district. Many teachers sent their appreciation to the District Education Officer for inviting UCE, as they felt their students desperately needed a message of renewed hope. They also asked for UCE Clubs to be established at every school, but were at a loss for how exactly to go about the process, so UCE Africa Director, Isaac Lema,  prepared a facilitator's manual explaining every detail that goes into running a UCE Club meeting. This is critical to maintaining the integrity of UCE's mission in every place the ministry operates abroad. Isaac states, "This was a long-term plan that suddenly turned into a short-term plan, successfully! Thanks be to God!"

UCE Directors: Isaac Lema, (Africa Director) Samantha Stratton, (outgoing USA Director) Sarah Smith, (incoming USA Interim Director) Andrew Dernovsek (Emeritus Executive Director)
You may recognize the photo of this team, who not so long ago came together to conduct outreaches over the winter months. Sarah Smith will be taking over the role of Interim USA Director. She has a long history of volunteering for UCE on outreaches throughout the Diocese of Pueblo and knows the Christian community well. She is a firm believer in chastity and looks forward to helping UCE at home and abroad during her time with the ministry.

The outgoing USA Director, Samantha Stratton, is recently engaged and thus relocating to Nevada, where her fiance is stationed in the Air Force. She is deeply saddened at having to leave what she has dedicated herself to over the past six months, but thanks every UCE donor for their prayers and excellent feedback which strengthened both UCE and her personal skillset.

Please continue to pray for both of these women as they dive into new worlds according to God's divine plan!
