Wishing all who are North Smithfield good times, good cheer and a productive, healthy new year!

2017 will certainly be a memorable year for this rookie town administrator.  Much has been learned in the past year.  A big part of that learning entails how much work we must do to move our town forward.    I hope we have all also learned that we must and can respectfully talk about any problem.  Every solution starts with recognizing the issue and taking the first step to improvement.  I have also learned to have confidence because, though our challenges are substantial, the people we have working on those challenges are both capable and committed to seeking and implementing solutions.  From the new people we have been lucky to have join us, to the longest tenured person on the staff, I am confident that our objective is the same and that objective is happy customers.
It is my intent to make 2018 an even more memorable year by setting plans to solve many of our oldest challenges.  We will also continue our drive to create new opportunity for industrial growth and the associated jobs that can be the key to success for so many people.  Let's make 2018 memorable with prudent steps to fix our horizontal and vertical infrastructure.
Finally, let's make the best of memories in 2018 simply by being kind and respectful to all we meet.
Happy New Year!

Gary Ezovski
Town Administrator

The Town of North Smithfield Recycling Department is hosting an after Christmas Recycling & Shredding Event on Saturday December 30th.

"This is a great opportunity to recycle a lot of holiday waste items.  We hope our residents will take advantage of the many recycling options we have at this one-day event," explains Donna Kaehler, NS Recycling Coordinator.

The event is being held Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the Highway Garage, 281 Quaker Highway, from 9 am - 1 pm.  Free on-site document shredding will be available, as well as special recycling for many holiday items.

This event will accept TVs, E-waste, hard-packing Styrofoam, the mounds of paper waste generated from cardboard boxes and wrapping paper and Christmas light strings.   We are also accepting our regular recyclable items:  scrap metal, mattresses, rigid plastic and used motor oil.

Christmas trees are also accepted this day, but this year the Town is offering curbside collection of live trees until the end of January. Residents just need to notify the town of their addresses.

To encourage recycling drop-offs after this event, the Town will have the Recycle Center area at the Highway garage open every Wednesday from 8 am - 2 pm, and every other Saturday 9 am - 1 pm.  The Saturday schedule for January is the 13th & 27th, 2018.  The recycle center can accept the light strings all season, as well as artificial trees which can be recycled with scrap metal.

Detailed information is available on the website or by calling Recycling at 767-2200 x345.

Happy Holidays & Happy Recycling all through the New Year!
