Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!  Last month in Tanzania, UCE missionaries of chastity used 4-wheel drive vehicles, motorcycles, and walked on foot as they swarmed across the district of Kilombero reaching 42 schools. By the end of the month, they had held 49 outreaches across 4 districts and saw 11,105 youth commit to chastity. An elder in a rural village proclaimed, "UCE educates students in chastity, truly this message is from heaven."  The UCE team members, working on a budget that provides only for commitments cards, transportation, and two meals per day, said, "We thank God in Jesus Christ for His guidance of all UCE activities. We are very grateful to the UCE Prayer Warriors who have devoted their time to pray for UCE activities in different countries. We have seen God's hand continue to lead and protect us in bringing the chastity message to Tanzania. In different places God has called and appointed people to work with UCE." UCE is indeed thankful for those God has called to work with us in spreading the message of chastity across the globe, whether as team members, Prayer Warriors, or financial supporters.

Two small rural communities in the USA heard the chastity message: Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church held a Lenten Agape Meal and Reflections, "Stories from Africa: Lessons on Overcoming Adversity". The meal was organized by UCE, led by Fr. John Farley, and different members of the Westcliffe community participated. They read the stories submitted by UCE volunteers and club members which told of the light, hope, and faith that had come out of a culture once wrought with death. In Florence, Colorado, seven youth committed to chastity in February after a UCE talk at their parish.

In Uganda, the chastity team has continued a push deep into the Rwenzori mountains, where people have never heard the Gospel message. They use chastity as a way to introduce them to Christ.  In Mahango, Uganda, the team described,  " Early marriage is the order of the day. The people believe there are more women than men, so they need to marry as many women as they can. Marriage starts as early 10 years old for both girls and boys. We had a difficult environment. Here again, we must first evangelize, and explain why a person should only stick to one spouse. We must bring the Christian witness along with the medical facts. At the end of the outreach, we fished out 20 of them for the Lord. They came boldly forward in front of all of their peers, and accepted to abstain and uphold it until the right time with the right partners."

In Burundi, despite ongoing challenges, the UCE team has continued with outreaches, and even carried out a 'chastity crusade' for Chastity Club members.

As we conclude this Easter season let us remember that death has been swallowed up in victory. Where once there was death, new life reigns. Let us stand firm. Let nothing move us. May we always give ourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because we know that our labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Yours in Christ,
Andrew Dernovsek

Ugandans reach out-of-school youth and 'unreached peoples'

The team began by calling for open discussions. We asked them questions about why they left school, challenges, and many other things. The youth were very open and shared with us. One of them said she began to have sex at a young age because of peer group influence. She said that it was her friends' style of living, and she followed it. Eventually, she said she lost all of her focus and left school. However, what moved us is that after the session, she vowed that she was a new creation, she made a commitment to chastity (abstain until a faithful marriage), and promised to change her peer group.

Another girl aged 15 said she was brought up by a single mother and that her mother is financially crippled. So whenever her daughter asked her for items like body lotion, sanitary pads, clothes, and school fees she tells her she has nothing. For this girl, she said she became a prostitute to pay for things. This young girl drew much inspiration from Scovia.

UCE missionaries of chastity swarm across Kilombero, Tanzania: 11,105 commit to chastity in February

There were many success stories from the outreach. Below are several of the highlights.

At the end of the outreach at Kilamsa secondary school, the students were given a chance to share their thoughts. One girl stood up and said, "We are very grateful for this education which you have given us. We have made our commitment to wait and to study hard in order to raise our academic performance. We will live a chaste life from now on. Thank you very much." The academic master then stood and said, "Certainly, today is a day of blessing in our school because this education is very vital for this generation. I will make sure we have established a UCE Chastity Club as soon as possible." At Kilamsa of the 220 gathered students 164 made commitments to chastity.

At Kwashungu Secondary School, the headmaster, Mr. Msafiri Chindengwike shared some of the challenges facing his students. He said, "Some girls have engaged in sexual relationships with adults who help them financially. This has led to a serious problems where students fail to concentrate on their studies. The school has tried to take legal action against some adults, but the results were not good, because families of the students negotiate and compromise with them. Last year we had two students who were found to be pregnant." After delivering the outreach: a message of forgiveness, hope, love, second chances, and God's plan for our lives regarding our sexuality, chastity, the students asked many questions.

Students were then given a chance to choose chastity, they shouted "we want to abstain in order to achieve our goals!" 353 of the 440 students at the school chose to commit to chastity. The headmaster then wound up the outreach by saying, "I am a teacher by professional but I cannot provide this kind of education as clearly as the UCE team does. So we take this opportunity to welcome you to our school as many times as you can come. We wish you a safe journey."

At Kibaoni Secondary School the team found that the UCE message had preceded them. One girl had committed to chastity at the UCE Easter conference in Ifunda, Iringa in 2014. She assisted the UCE team by showing all of her peers her chastity commitment and giving a witness to chastity. She said that as a student, "I have chosen abstinence as my way of life." Her teachers shared that, "she is a very good student with good behavior." The UCE team congratulated her on being a good role model of chastity. She helped to encourage 298 of her 350 gathered peers to commit to chastity.
