Thank you for helping me meet my dietary needs. Hopefully, these guidelines will make it easier for you to prepare these special meals.
5 Simple Guidelines for the "Hicks Special"
1.
Mostly vegetables.
At least 2/3 of the plate should be vegetables--whatever combination of 2 or 3 types that you might have on a given day. The other 1/3 of the plate should be starch: like grains, legumes or potato (not French fries).
2.
Generous portions
. The portions should be generous enough to fill the plate. It takes a lot of whole plants to make a complete meal--with enough calories to keep you going.
3.
Whole grain
. Whole grain brown or wild rice and whole grain pasta are preferred.
4.
Oil, salt & animal products.
Please make minimal to ZERO use of oil, butter and added salt...also NO meat, cheese, milk, eggs or seafood.
5.
Whole grain bread.
I usually like to have a little bread on the side and would prefer that it be whole grain if possible.
