March Madness is Upon Us

Basketball fans from around the world have begun the frenzy known as March Madness. For many, this is part of their yearly ritual as the NCAA crowns their men and women basketball champions only after many games played in arenas around the country. I invite you to pause and reflect on some similarities and differences between being a "fan" and being a "player."
  • Fans can skip watching a game or two and may often root for many different teams. Players are committed and often give 100%-leaving it on the court.
  • Fans have limited expertise (excluding those out there who've "got game"). Players have studied and practiced in preparation for this opportunity.
Another ritual is also underway as men and women around the world are in the midst of preparing to gather with some of the world's premier mathematics education leaders in San Antonio, Texas for the 49th annual NCSM conference.

The parallels of Fans to Players and March Madness to the Mathematics Education Leadership highlight the importance that our students only have one "K-12 tournament" so we must make every moment count if they are going to become champions. We must leave it all on the court and make everyday a championship day for each and every student.

Have a great rest of the school year and I hope to see you in a few days in San Antonio.

Get Engaged. Stay Connected. Make a Difference!!!
