 Foundation Board Member Carlos F. Garcia named Managing Partner of Hancock Askew's Miami Office

Coral Gables Community Foundation Board Member & Immediate Past Chairman, Carlos F. Garcia, CPA, CVA, CGMA, has joined Hancock Askew as the Managing Partner of its Miami office. After opening its doors this February, the firm continues its expansion in Miami with the addition of new team members. 
 
"It's an exciting time for Hancock Askew as the firm continues to grow in Miami and overall. I'm honored to be leading the new office of such a distinguished and long-established firm and as our local team grows, we will be able to continue to provide excellent client service in the areas of tax, accounting, auditing and consulting" said Carlos.
 
Carlos has over 25 years of experience in both public accounting and private business. He started his career at Deloitte & Touche, LLP and has gained significant experience in the areas of auditing, merger and acquisition assistance and consulting as it relates primarily to real estate, healthcare, restaurants and hospitality, manufacturing, not-for-profits, professional services and technology. Carlos received his Bachelors of Accounting from the University of Miami and MBA studies from Florida International University.  In addition to his role on the Foundation Board of Directors, Carlos was recently named the Vice Chairman of the Coral Gables Art Cinema.

Foundation hosts panel discussion on Smart Philanthropy sponsored by  Evensky & Katz/Foldes 
Financial Wealth Management 


On June 2nd, friends of the Coral Gables Community Foundation were treated to an engaging lunchtime conversation on smart charitable giving and planning practices by esteemed panelists Lou Nostro with Nostro Jones, John Anzivino from Kaufman Rossin and Lane Jones from Evensky & Katz/Foldes Financial Wealth Management. Foundation Board Member  Lee Osiason from SMGQ Law moderated the panel. We would like to thank our panelists and generous host David Evensky and Evensky & Katz/Foldes Financial Wealth Management for a wonderful event. The event was also held in partnership with the Non-Profit Task Force of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce.

The  City of Coral Gables and the Coral Gables Community Foundation were pleased to present Coral Cube awards to several long-standing restaurants in Coral Gables during the June 14th City Commission meeting.  The Foundation and the City thank them for their enduring culinary contributions to our community. The following restaurants were awarded during the June City Commission Meeting:  Ortanique on the Mile, La Dorada, Burger Bob's, Christy's and Frenchie's Diner Additional restaurants will be recognized at upcoming City Commission meetings.

The Slesnick Family Fund



Don & Jeannett Slesnick are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in the City Beautiful  through their Donor-Advised Fund at the Coral Gables Community Foundation
 
Through the Slesnick Family Fund, established in 2003, Don & Jeannett have made a positive difference throughout Coral Gables and Greater Miami  by generously donat ing  over $175,000 to more than 100 deserving organizations and causes . T he Coral Gables Museum, the Coral Gables Art Cinema, Actors' Playhouse and the Miami Bach Society  are just a few of the recipient organizations of the Slesnick Family Fund
 
Don Slesnick served as Mayor of Coral Gables from 2001-2011 and has been active in numerous civic and business organizations including the Coral Gables Community Foundation where he proudly served as Chairman from 1997-1998. Current City Commissioner Jeannett Slesnick takes great pride in preserving the City's quality of life for current and future residents. She too served as Chairman of the Coral Gables Community Foundation in 2008. The Slesnicks enjoy spending time with their children and four grandchildren as well as continuing to volunteer their time to non-profit organizations in their community.

Golden Gables Fund:
 George W. Carver Elementary students perform with new violins

On June 9th, 3rd graders from George W. Carver Elementary School gave a musical performance with violins donated by Coral Gables Community Foundation Board Member, Lee Osiason. Led by music teacher Mr. Alejandro Riesco, the students showcased their musical skills with renditions of "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star", and other favorites.  What an impressive performance it was!
