Greetings Eagle Chapter Members and Friends!

Thank-you to our December donors!  You helped make last month one of our best month's ever for our annual donation drive.  Our annual donation drive ends this month, so if you have not gotten around to it, please consider making your donation now.  Your donations provide us the source of paying our operating costs like this newsletter, our post office box fee, wreaths for our wreath laying activities, Eagle Proud Warrior support to wounded SF warriors, in addition to donations to support SF activities in Eagle Country - DC, DE, MD, VA and WV. So your donation helps in so many different ways.

Speaking of wreath laying, we start our wreath laying events each January with a wreath laying at Joint Base Anacostia Bolling - formerly Bolling Air Force Base - to remember one of our Security Force heroes, Captain Reginald V. Maisey, Junior.  Please see details below.  Thank-you Trudy Hannah of Hampton VA who designed and made this wreath along with all of our wreaths every year.

In closing, we are looking forward to seeing you at an Eagle Chapter event in 2017! Thank-you for your continuing support.

Very respectfully,

Lee

Our Maisey Building Background
Maisey Family at Re-dedication
In the photo at left, Captain Maisey's son, Reg Maisey III (left) with his son (Captain Maisey's grandson), Blake, and Captain Maisey's brother, Terry Maisey view the shadow box.

In 2007, while in-processing at then Bolling Air Force Base Washington, D. C. Lt Col Joe Siedlarz, noticed that aside from the name on the outside of the building, there was no display honoring Captain Reginald V. Maisey, Jr, or an explanation of how Building #5681 became named in his honor. Lt Col Siedlarz contacted Lee Chambers, Eagle Chairman.

We then contacted Andrew Stephens, 11th Wing Historian. From there, the energy escalated. We participated in a working group that included the Wing Historian, the Wing Protocol office, our headquarters then the Air Force Security Police Association and Lt Col Siedlarz. The leadership decided to rededicate the building. During the rededication, they added the rank, "Capt" to the name of the building and they decided to place a shadow box in a central location near the building's entrance.

On the day of the dedication, the Wing held a ceremony where the Wing Commander unveiled the shadow box with family members in attendance. Speakers for the unveiling included, Colonel Ron Newsom, Deputy Director HQ Air Force Security Forces, Col (Ret) Jerry Bullock, Executive Director AFSPA and Lt Col (Ret) Kent Miller.  Kent was the commander of the 377th Security Police Squadron who had held ground at Bunker 10 and Bien Hoa Air Base where Reg Maisey lost his life.

After the unveiling, we jointly sponsored a luncheon at the Bolling Air Force Base Officers Club and Eagle Chapter sponsored a dinner for the Maisey family.

Since the dedication, we have included Captain Maisey internment at Arlington in our twice a year visit at Arlington National Cemetery.

This was a tremendous day for all involved. Below is a letter of appreciation from then the Air Force Top Cop then Brigadier General Mary Kay Hertog.

Family members, including Captain Maisey's widow, Judith also provided numerous accolades. You can see their notes in the attached Eagle Flight newsletter.

Come join us on January 31 at the Maisey Building to again remember the great sacrifice of this family and this tremendous hero who earned the military's third highest award - the Air Force Cross.
SF Salutes Spawns Social Media Sensation - President's First Salute

Then President-Elect Donald J. Trump and wife, Melania, arrive at Joint Base Andrews on January 19 and with this photo, another Security Forces social media sensation occurs as media boards erupt with proud accolades from former and current Air Force Air Police, Security Police, and Security Force members praise our Security Forces Airmen at Andrews for just doing their job.

Awesome - as always.

Tentative Dates Set - Vietnam War Memorial Wall Wash Dates
Above volunteers wash the Vietnam War Veterans Memorial as the Washington Monument gleams in the background during the Eagle Chapter sponsored event.

These dates are tentative. Earlier this month, we requested Saturday April 29 and Saturday August 26 as our dates to wash the Vietnam War Memorial.

I will confirm these dates in the next chapter update.
A few minor technical details away - 66th Security Forces Squadron Hanscom Mass To Submit Ruiz and Sartain - National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial

Above, Airman First Class Kcey E. Ruiz and Senior Airman Nathan C. Sartain died in the October 2, 2015 crash of a C130J in Afghanistan.

As of this writing, the NLEOM had agreed to hold up on processing the submission packages for Airman Ruiz and Sartain until the unit could get all of the material required to be submitted by January 31.

If we don't make it this year, we can keep at it until success occurs.  Thanks to Chief Pepper and his team for getting the packages completed up to this point.

When a Father Asks...
At left, Eagle Chairman, Lee Chambers, presents the Eagle Chapter coin to Senior Airman Philip Newlyn December 2009.

I'm sharing this information because I think you'll agree that when a father asks, we respond - even when we don't condone the action. Also if there is someone on this mail list who knows Philip Newlyn and would like to send a letter, please contact me and I'll provide more information.

Earlier this month, John Newlyn, father of one of our Proud Warrior Airmen, Philip Newlyn, who was injured in Iraq and medically evacuated to the Walter Reed, asked me to write a letter to let authorities know of the Philip that I knew.  I told him that I only know of Philip from my visits with him at Walter Reed.  When I caught up with Philip, he was living at the Fisher House compound at Walter Reed with his mom, Patty.

I won't go into any of the circumstances that Philip now finds himself.  It was great hearing from his dad who discovered my business card among Philip's keepsakes from his military service.
