HHS's Price Urges Doctors to Submit Ideas for Medicare Pay Models

Doctors should step up and recommend more payment HHS logo alternatives to fee-for-service Medicare, the HHS secretary said April 11.

Doctors across the country should offer the committee ideas about what payment model would work better for them, the HHS secretary said. This is especially important for those in rural and underserved areas who think the current system is designed for large integrated groups that have administrative assistance, he said.
Doctor forcibly removed from United Flight

A video posted to YouTube on 4/10/17 features a physician passenger who was forcibly removed from a United Airlines flight by law enforcement on Sunday ( 4.9.17) after refusing to give up his seat. The incident occurred on the plane before takeoff at O'Hare International Airport. According to several reports the doctor needed to work at the hospital the next day, so he refused to volunteer.

David Dao, the doctor who was dragged off a United Airlines flight and found himself an instant internet celebrity as a result, has taken steps to sue the airline, and his lawyer said he is a "poster boy" for bullying by airlines.
Value Based Care Programs Reduce Hospital Readmissions, Study Finds

According to authors Andrew M. Ryan, PhD, Sam Krinsky, MA, Julia Adler-Milstein, PhD, Cheryl L. Damberg, PhD, Kristin A. Maurer, MPH and John M. Hollingsworth, MD, in a JAMA Internal Medicine research report published online April 10, 2017:

In this longitudinal study of 2837 US hospitals between 2008 and 2015, we found that participation in 1 or more Medicare value-based reforms-including the Meaningful Use of Electronic Health Records program, the Accountable Care Organization programs, and the Bundled Payment for Care Initiative-was associated with greater reductions in 30-day risk-standardized readmission rates under the Hospital Readmission Reduction Program.
