The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group hold their annual spring meetings . IMF managing director Christine Lagarde  was optimistic before the meetings, saying the global economic recovery is "gaining momentum." Both organisations are expected to stress the need to combat protectionism and ensure the benefits of growth are more evenly distributed.
