2017 KAC HOLIDAY CLOSURES

KAC'S SCOUT BEAT SPOTLIGHT PACK 83

PENOBSCOT - On Tuesday December 19th, Penobscot's Cub Scout Pack 83 held a special ceremony to present the Arrow of Light award to WEBELO Cub Scouts Logan Spratt and Andy Erlanson.  Logan is the son of Jack and Christine Spratt of Castine and  Andy is the son of Bill and Amy Erlanson of Orland.  Presenting the awards was Cubmaster Captain Dana Willis.  Scoutmaster Jeremy Leclair and members of Orland Boy Scout Troop 102 were on hand to assist with the ceremony and to  welcome the boys into their ranks as new Boy Scouts.

The Arrow of Light is the highest award in Cub Scouting.  Earning this award prepares a WEBELOS scout to become a Boy Scout.  This award is the only Cub Scout badge that can be worn on the Boy Scout uniform when a boy graduates into a troop.

STEP BY STEP: HOW TO BECOME A MERIT BADGE COUNSELOR
Step by step: How to become a merit badge counselor

The merit badge counselor is one of the coolest jobs in Scouting.
These volunteers introduce Scouts to a topic about which they are passionate and knowledgeable.  At the very least, a merit badge counselor helps a young man earn a merit badge for his sash and get one step closer to the next rank.  At the most, a merit badge counselor introduces a young man to a subject that could become a lifelong hobby or career.  The first step is to become registered with your local council and complete Youth Protection training.  Existing counselors must re-register annually .

Then you must meet these requirements:
  • Be an individual of good character
  • Be age 18 or older
  • Have the skills and education in the subject(s) you want to teach
  • Have good rapport with Scout-age youths and their unit leaders
  • Be approved by the local council
