SAINTS PETER & PAUL SCHOOL

SPORTS TRIVIA
NIGHT ANNOUNCED

Ask the average commuter on a platform waiting for a train to the city to explain the law of supply and demand, who was the first man to land on the moon, or even the name of the president who ordered an atomic bomb to be dropped on Japan, and you're likely to
receive a blank stare.

However, you can walk into any sports bar and hear patrons rattle off statistics as to how many times Ernie Bank's was named to the All-Star team, the names of the last three Triple Crown winners, who has the most victories of any women's college basketball coach, who the Bears' starting quarterback was when they won the NFL crown in a game played at Wrigley Field, in which round the New England Patriots drafted Tom Brady, the player for whom the NBA logo is patterned, the college player who won the first Heisman Trophy, and the names and uniform numbers of all the players the Blackhawks or Bulls have retired.

For the most part, only pride is on the line when these discussions and questions arise. For men, that is often enough. Now, however, there is a chance to showcase your vault of useless knowledge before the entire school and parish community and win official bragging rights for the next twelve months.

On Friday, June 16, over the Father's Day weekend, Saints Peter and Paul School's Advancement Board is hosting the first ever Sports Trivia Night. Chaired by Nicole Jurjovec, the committee includes Mike Bracken, Rob Lyon, Tommy Walter, and Grace Hanrehan, this new fundraising event, which benefits our school, will be held in our air-conditioned school gym from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m.   What a great opportunity to spend quality time with your dad, grandfather, uncle, or best buddy. Besides, having multiple generations on each team enhances the chances of winning.

The committee is anticipating attracting twenty-five teams of five players with the entry fee set at $125 per person or $500 per team. Free pizza, non-alcoholic beverages and snacks will be available and participants will also be able to BYOB (beer and wine only).

There is more on the line, however, than being able to pound one's chest, as the winning team has the choice of three prizes:

-          a free foursome at the SSPP Golf Outing scheduled            for Monday, September 11, or

-          a table for eight at next year's Auction, or

-          $1,000 donation to the charity of your choice

This event will be professionally run as we are contracting with a sports trivia company which will provide the questions and also furnish a host who will be introduced by our emcee for the evening, Ryan Kubacki.

Registration is now open with a special Sports Trivia Night button on the front page of our website or you can simply

We remain grateful for the 41% of our school families who have made their tax-deductible gift to this year's Annual Fund.

Unfortunately we are still short of our $75,000 goal, as well as our desire for 75% parent participation.

The AFD runs through
