Celebrating The Collective's 30th Anniversary with our friends and supporters

The Community Artists' Collective celebrated its 30 th anniversary April 15 with "An Evening of Champagne and Art" at the Deborah Colton Gallery.

Tony Chase and Dr. Dina Alsowayel were honorary chairs of the event, which treated leaders and friends of the art community to an exceptional and lively garden party, entertainment, silent and live auctions and recognition of three outstanding contributors to the arts.

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and Mayor Sylvester Turner presented proclamations declaring it Community Artists' Collective Day to Executive Director Michelle Barnes.

Honored were Dr. Alvia Wardlaw as Artist/Historian of the Year; Honorable Peter H. Brown as the Lester Marks Patron of the Year; and Delita Pinchback Martin as the Arts in Action Honoree.

Event Chairs Dr. Sarah Trotty, Deborah Colton and Beverly Harmon deserve special thanks and recognition for the planning and execution of the event.  Special thanks also go to Auction Chair Gaynell Floyd Drexler, who curated a diverse mix of beautifully displayed art from outstanding artists for the auction, to Lloyd Gite for his special auctioneering skills, to our dedicated board of directors and advisory board, to our generous sponsors, to the many artists who donated works for the auctions and for the many volunteers who filled out the event's canvas.

Sharon George-Rios invited Michelle Barnes to share information about her work as an artist and the work that is done through The Collective with third and fourth graders at Helms Elementary School.  The children eagerly responded to the hands-on activity.
