What is "The Great Orphaning", and why is it perhaps the biggest single dynasty event in fantasy football?
I guess the first question should be who is mastersfantasyfootballleagues.com? We believe we are the single largest group of dynasty leagues on the planet. We have over 400 ongoing dynasty leagues and more are filling daily. We have been in business since 2008 and have been running dynasty leagues since 2011. We have never folded a dynasty league and for that matter we have had every ongoing dynasty league be completely full/renewed by July 1st.
We currently have 4642 ongoing dynasty franchises even with a renewal rate of over 93% we are going to have alot of orphans. On or about June 1st we go into all of our dynasty leagues and Orphan any un-renewed teams. We call these "surprise" orphans because the previous owner did not have the courtesy to tell us they were orphaning their franchise.
On June Sunday 18th we post the Orphans. We post them in waves so that we do not get overwhelmed, at 10:00 am ET we post the Tin ($40), 11:00 am the Copper ($66) and at Noon we post the Bronze ($118)/Silver ($276)/ and Gold ($545) orphans. IMO there will be 300 or so Orphans posted, of which 200 will be sold by 1:00 pm.
The Nice thing about Masters orphans is that the deposit on the team has already been paid which means you get the team at 1/2 the price of a fresh team.
We always have a few Orphans posted leading up to the big event.
