We're all guilty of putting off some of the most important things that take care of our family and ourselves.

Today we welcomed Richard Solbrig and Paul Hughes from STPUD, our local governmental agency that cares for our water and sewer needs.  You may think "How Boring" but you would be very wrong. First they are a governmental agency and not a city or county agency. Did you realize that the Tahoe basin is mandated to pump all of our waste water out of the Tahoe basin rather than allowing it to go into our streams and lakes? STPUD pumps our partially treated water over the mountain to Alpine County where it is used on pastures.  The force of the water entering Alpine is captured to generate power. Wonder why do we still have water when there is a major power outage?  There are stand by generators at the Waste water treatment centers.  How about all the water meters and new fire hydrants?  California mandates all homes have the meters.  They are working with the Fire Department to provide adequate placement of the hydrants.  Don't for get water saving landscaping? There may be funds available to take out lawns. Check out all the rebates they have that include removing lawns and other water saving evaluations available. Click here to check them out.
I have given you a few links for more  information on some of the things mentioned here.  There are many more topics cover on their web site.  Click here to go to their home page.

AmazonSmile: Almost everyone shops via Amazon these days and if you use our portal, you can help to make your purchase go to the benefit of women and youth!  Simply use AmazonSmile.com and access our club here to do ALL your purchasing online.  It doesn't cost you a thing and you will be donating back to our club, Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra.  Pass it on!

A special fund has been established with Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra in the name of John Nemes .  John was a long-time elementary school teacher in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District who passed away recently. More than anything, John encouraged children to read by not only teaching reading but by giving away many books. We are hoping to have funds enough to expand our Summer Reading Program to two books (instead of one) to send home with all children in grades K - 3 on the South Shore. If you would like to contribute please send checks to: SITS, P.O. Box 18727, South Lake Tahoe, CA, 96151.
