Farm Enterprise Budgeting - "Should I Plant Corn, Convert to Pasture, or....?"
9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
Wednesday, January 17
Stevens Point

A simple enterprise budget is extremely beneficial to help producers assess the financial viability of their cropping systems. The goal is not to perform an all-inclusive financial plan for the farm; it is to help them make basic, simple decisions regarding their various farm enterprises.  If we can show them the numbers and how conservation can pay, it seems to go a long way towards us "selling" conservation. We will run through various scenarios and practice running an enterprise budget. The focus will be on a using a corn budget and grassfed beef budget.  Bring a laptop with Microsoft Excel loaded to practice "running the numbers."  Check out https://wisconsinlandwater.org/training/statewide-training-events or contact Penny at [email protected] for more information. Register by Thursday, January 11, for this free training with lunch provided at http://events.constantcontact.com/register/event?llr=7pa8l6qab&oeidk=a07eexnzt4d01feba30

The Art of Negotiating: Getting What You Need
1:00-2:00 p.m.
Thursday, January 18 AND 25
Online

Negotiation is an essential business strategy - whether you are negotiating a land rental contract, an employee's salary or want to clarify a delivery schedule -negotiation is part of every business owner's toolkit. But women frequently feel unprepared and unskilled in this form of communication. In this two-part virtual series, we will learn what negotiation really is (and what it is not). We will explore how to prepare for, and execute, a successful negotiation. We will also discuss how to preserve a relationship even when you have lost the deal. We will also explore why women hesitate to ask for what they need and why walking away from an opportunity is so unsettling. This interactive workshop will address negotiation from the perspective of women farmers and ranchers and the issues most relevant to them.  This session will meet twice in an online classroom. Participants should plan to attend both sessions. Register at https://learn.extension.org/events/3279
