VOLUNTEERING
Do you need volunteer hours? We Need Your Help in the Lunchroom!
We are in need of parent volunteers to help in the lunchroom. It is a fun and easy way to get some volunteer hours and meet other parents.
Lunch is served Monday - Friday; we have many parents that use their work lunch break to help us in the lunchroom. If you are available, please consider helping us! Volunteers are needed now for these positions:
  • Tuesdays - Food preparation helper: 10am - 11am (requires a WA Food Worker's Card)
  • Wednesdays - Food Server (serving hot food to students): 11:40am - 12:40pm (requires a WA Food Worker's Card)
  • Fridays - Lyceum Set up/Clean up: 11am - 12pm and Lyceum Set up/Clean up late: 11:45am - 12:45pm
All parent volunteers handling food are required to have their WA Food Worker's Card which is easy to obtain via this website
Please contact Amy Iracheta  if you are interested in helping or if you have any questions.

Parent volunteers needed for Student Summit Planning Committee
Parent volunteers are needed to help plan and develop three days of relevant, inspiring and college planning related activities for our Grade 9-12 students on September 5-7, the start of the new school year.
The Committee's first meeting will be held during Focus Week next month between May 23th-25th.
The volunteers will work directly with counselor Lis Christiansen and utilize the template and contacts that have been established from the previous two very successful years of implementation.
If you are interested in joining this committee, you must be the parent of a 9-12 th  grade student next year and be available for the first meeting, future planning meetings and to assist at the event, September 5-7, 2017.
Please email Kathy Thompson and Julie Kotler,   to express your interest in helping with this event.
We hope to have a mix of parents from all high school grades who can help.

Lunch Time Game Keepers Needed on Wednesdays and Substitutes
The Game Keepers are in need of a volunteer (or two) who can help cover their duties on Wednesdays during lunch.
They are also in need of volunteers who would like to volunteer as substitutes to fill in when needed.
As a volunteer, you would be responsible for setting up/ taking down the ping pong tables and checking out the outdoor balls to students.
Please email our Volunteer Coordinators, if you are interested or have any questions.

Volunteer Opportunity: ICS Prom Chaperone
Our Prom Dance is May 13th at the College Club in Seattle. It will be held on one of the club's boats.
Venue Address: 11 E. Allison Street, Seattle, WA
We need chaperoning for this dance from 7pm to 12am (Prom is from 8pm to 11pm). It is best if parents stay for the whole time.

Volunteer Chaperones Needed For Grades 6-7-8 Camp in September 2017
Camp will be September 6-8, 2016 at Camp  Cispus  near Randle, Washington. We need 17 parent chaperones to attend camp with the students and staff. Please apply via email by May 19.
Requirements:
  • 6 Male chaperones
  • 6 Female Chaperones
  • Male or Female Chaperones (Kitchen help for mealtimes, no cabin duty)
  • 1 parent (preferably a nurse or doctor) to offer first aid for campers
  •  Approximately 6 of the chaperones need to be available to leave for camp on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 5 to drive the camp counselors and several staff to camp to set up. On that afternoon, we need one of those parents to drive a trailer (or large pick-up) with supplies to the camp also. These chaperones will return home Friday afternoon with the camp counselors and staff after the camp is cleaned up and the supplies reloaded in the trailer.
  • The remaining parent chaperones will be leaving the school early on Wednesday, September 6 with the camper students and the remainder of the staff on buses. This group will also return on Friday late afternoon.
  • Parent chaperones are responsible for their cabin groups at night and attend to their assigned groups during the daytime leading them to class locations. Campers attend classes and activities during the day that are led by student counselors; parent chaperones are usually free during the class time.
  • Kitchen help at mealtimes works with the Camp Cispus kitchen staff and are bunked in with the other parents.
  • All parent chaperones will attend an informational meeting before we leave for camp on August 30, 2017 at 5pmThis meeting is followed by the general parent meeting for camp at 6pm. This is the same date that ICS registration day is expected to be on.

Focus Week - Nurse Forms Required
If you have a student requiring medication for Focus Week, please read, and see the attached forms:  Medications Checklist  and  Authorization For Administration of Medication at School.
To be in compliance with the current laws around out of state or out of country field trips, all medication orders for Focus Week must be marked "Yes" for self-carry by the prescribing physician.
It is very important that the attached forms get completed and signed by both the parent and student's physician where applicable, and returned to our school office,  no later than Tuesday, May 2nd.
Please remember that all over the counter medications require the same medication authorization form. Please read  Requirements for Medication at School.

For additional questions, please email the school nurse,  Jennifer Harkestad .
Volunteering Update
We want to thank all of the parents who have volunteered their time so far this year.
Parent involvement makes such a difference in the experience of our ICS students. In fact, as of the end of March, we have 122 families who have met or exceeded their 30-hour volunteer commitment for the year. Great job!
However, we also have 118 families who have not logged a single hour. If you have been volunteering and have not had a chance to report your hours, please do so ASAP. You can only get credit for your volunteer hours if you report them (see instructions below). As a reminder, families will be asked to pay $30/outstanding hour in June.

There are less than three months left of school and it is going to become increasingly difficult to find opportunities to fill the 30- hour annual commitment. If you need help finding opportunities, please be sure to read the weekly newsletter - this is where the volunteer opportunities are advertised.
You can also contact committee chairs directly if you would like to work with a particular committee. Their contact information can be found in the school directory or at this link.
If you still need help identifying opportunities or have questions, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Kathy Thompson.

Reporting Volunteer Hours
In order to record your volunteer hours, first log into the PTSA website using the log in form on the right side of the homepage, and then click on Input Volunteer Hours under the Volunteering menu item on the left side of the screen. Complete all of the required information and click on the 'Submit' button.
If you've already entered volunteer hours in the past, your last entry will be pre-populated on the screen. Simply edit the 'Category', 'Hours', and 'Comments' (if necessary) and click on the 'Submit' button once. If you do not click on the 'Submit' button, your hours will not be recorded.
You can also check how many hours you have by clicking on the 'View Submitted Hours' button to verify that your hours have been recorded (this will only show your hours; if your family has created multiple ICSPTSA accounts, you will have to check each account if you are looking for total family hours).

Note: Please don't forget to first create an account on the website. Once you've registered and 'confirmed' your registration, please allow 24 hours for your account to be approved. You will need an active account to enable you to enter your volunteer hours.
If you have questions about how to report your hours on the website or have trouble with logging on, please contact our PTSA Webmasters.

 Volunteering at ICS - Reminders
Have you been volunteering and reporting your hours to the website? This is a great time to think about volunteering - the end of the year will be upon us in no time, and then it is very difficult to find opportunities to fill the 30-hour annual commitment.
A few reminders:
  • Volunteer hours cannot be gifted or transferred between families.
  • Hours can be earned by adult family members or caregivers.
  • Site Work Parties/Clean up hours count for ALL family members who attend - students, siblings, parents, etc.
  • Students can earn up to ten hours of volunteer time per school year
  • Volunteer guideline information for ICS can be found on our website
If you need help finding opportunities, please read the weekly newsletter - this is where volunteer opportunities are advertised.
You can also contact committee chairs directly if you'd like to work with a particular committee. Their contact information can be found in the school directory, or at this link on the PTSA website. If you still need help identifying opportunities or have questions, please contact our Volunteer Coordinators, Julie Kotler  and Kathy Thompson
Thank you in advance for supporting our school, staff and students!
