Whether you are a graduating senior, or a rising sophomore, the month of March is an important period for course planning, senior audits, and preparation for graduation. CASC Minor staff strongly encourage you to take advantage of drop in advising hours on Monday and Wednesday, or, sign up for an appointment with a staff member. CASC Funding Opportunities

Plan to intern for a social justice based organization over the summer? Apply for the CASC Social Justice Internship Fund. The fund provides support for students seeking internship, field, or volunteer opportunities in community settings with a social justice emphasis. The application deadline is Thursday, March 30th. Details can be found below.
If you are developing a project, program, or initiative related to social justice through a student organization, apply for CASC funding by submitting an application through the funding proposal form. The details on how to request funding are listed in CASC announcements. There are many programs, initiatives, and fellowships to build your awareness about various forms of social justice engagement campus wide. Take a look at the diverse array of opportunities available in the announcements.

CASC Funding for Student Organizations
CASC students are involved in many activities around campus and we receive multiple requests for  funding. CASC has a limited pool of money for which CASC students are eligible to apply up to $250. In order to apply for a CASC grant, you must be part of a registered student org and have an SOAS account. There are four  funding deadlines throughout the year - October 1, December 1, January 15, and March 15. Please allow 2-3 weeks for a response.  To apply for  funding , students must  submit a funding proposal Contact the CASC office with questions.

CASC Social Justice Internship Fund
The CASC Social Justice Internship Fund provides funding for students seeking internship, field, or volunteer opportunities in community settings with a social justice emphasis. We recognize that many students face barriers participating in summer programs without compensation, stipends, or awards. Supported by the generosity of CASC alumni and friends, The CASC Social Justice Internship seeks to offset a portion of students' cost of living to encourage participation in social justice efforts in community settings. CASC Minor students are eligible to apply for grants of up to $500 to support their engagement in a social justice internship for  Summer 2017.  Apply here.   Email cascminor@umich.edu for questions

CASC Drop-In 
For the 2017 Winter Semester the drop in hours for CASC are Mondays from 10AM - 1PM, and Wednesdays from 1PM - 4PM and  in rooms 3833 and 3831 in the School of Social Work. Stop by if you have questions related to academic advising regarding the minor, course planning, senior audits, declaring the minor and any other general questions regarding CASC!

Know Our Rights: A Day of Workshops
The goal of these workshops is to educate students about their individual rights and the rights of their peers and allies. The workshops are specifically tailored to address the rights of those whose identities are actively under threat, and foster the confidence in both the affected individuals and their allies (on and off-campus) to understand and assert their human and civil rights. Learn more and register. The Critical Ethnic & Asian/Pacific Islander American Studies Working Group welcomes you to a series of events about Asian American Mental Health between now and March. They hope to build community and space for critical, creative dialogues on mental health, a topic often silenced or stigmatized. Their approach in understanding Asian American mental health is connected to the matrix of activism, resistance, and well-being of all communities of color.

Understanding Girl's GLocal Empowerment
This presentation, sponsored by the School of Public Health, will provide an interdisciplinary platform to discuss how we can uplift the world's most vulnerable citizens, young Millennial women, through international research public health initiatives and social justice activism. Exotic: Human Rights & Erotic Labor in Guam Documentary
Sponsored by the Institute for Research on Women and Gender "Exotic" documents migrant labor practices in the adult entertainment industry in Guam. Using the island's strip clubs and massage parlors as a lens to explore U.S. militarization, immigration, and race and discrimination, the film helps audiences understand the link between labor rights abuses and sex trafficking. Generation Found Documentary 
Sponsored by the Washtenaw Recovery Advocacy Project and Students For Recovery, this documentary takes an intimate look at how a system of treatment centers, sober high schools, alternative peer groups and collegiate recovery programs can exist to intervene early and provide an alternative to the "War on Drugs".

Spiritual Ecology Fellowship
This fellowship is designed to offer an experience of deep study and practical application of the principles of spiritual ecology. You will develop and implement pilot projects with potential to be catalysts for change. There will be 8 selected participants who receive full tuition scholarships and a $10,000 stipend to assist with project development. Millennial Public Policy Fellowship
This 11-month paid fellowship from New America is designed to create opportunities for new and diverse voices to contribute to future public policy discussions and seeks to invest in some of the most promising young minds in the country to deepen exposure to contemporary public policy discourse and to create valuable professional development experiences that will support growth as a future leaders. LSA Democracy in Action Fund
Have an idea to promote democratic engagement on campus? Want to promote real dialogue and inclusive action? Want to put your liberal arts education in motion? The Democracy in Action Fund provides grants ranging from $500 to $2500 to support students, faculty, and staff to do the challenging work of advancing genuine democratic engagement on campus. LSA Internship Scholarships
LSA Students with demonstrated financial need are eligible for scholarship support for up to $5000 for internship opportunities during the spring and summer terms. Final applications are due Thursday June 15th, and award decisions are made on a rolling basis. Learn more and apply

Impact 
Impact is a non-profit project of leading advocacy organizations that creates the grassroots action and power needed to make an impact. They're hiring a team of organizers for a two-year program. Impact organizer Annalise Dobbelstein will be interviewing graduating seniors on campus on March 9th, in advance of their March 13th priority application deadline. Growing Hope 
Growing Hope helps people improve their lives and communities through gardening and increasing access to healthy food. They educate, inspire, and empower the community - in schools, at urban farms, at farmers markets, in their Ypsilanti retail shop, and around southeast Michigan. They are offering a range of paid and unpaid internships/volunteer positions for spring and summer, including Farm Assistant and Nutrition Educator Intern. Learn more.

The AFL-CIO Organizing Institute 
The AFL-CIO OI provides an intensive training program for candidates interested in becoming a union organizer. The process begins with a three-day training where candidates learn and practice basic union organizing skills (housing and meals provided). Applicants selected participate in a 12-week, paid field training with an AFL-CIO affiliate union, where they learn union-building skills and gain experience on a union organizing campaign firsthand. Upon successful completion of the AFL-CIO Apprenticeship Program, apprentices are recommended by the Organizing Institute to be hired by local and national unions. Learn more

SAGA Innovations
SAGA Innovations is a program in under performing school districts of New York City and Chicago helping students reach new academic achievement through a high-dosage tutoring model. SAGA offers a fellowship for recent college graduates, in which the fellow works with two students for one class period per day for an entire school year. During this class period fellows develop lesson plans specially tailored to each student's learning style and curriculum. Learn more and apply.
