Compassion Massage heads to the IDEA conference this month!
On Sunday, April 2, Compassion Massage joined other massage therapists and industry leaders in Needham, MA for the In Depth Education for All (IDEA) Conference.
The event is sponsored by the American Massage Therapy Association MA Chapter and encompassed several important aspects we didn't want to miss. First, we attended an Ethics training by Dr. Ben Benjamin who has over three decades of field experience and education in massage therapy. We thank Dr. Benjamin for sharing his wisdom with us so that we can better serve our clients.
Ana Garcia, Executive Director of the MA State Board of Massage Therapy presented legislative updates that were enacted in January 2017 and reported that Massachusetts has 8,542 actively licensed massage therapists. Those numbers have risen by 145 practitioners since just last year.
The massage therapy career field continues to take strides forward to define what professional massage therapy is and how it benefits consumers.
Lastly, we heard from Mark Molloy of Lynch Associates, Inc. who represents the MA Chapter of the AMTA as our MA State Lobbyist. Mark has been dedicated and has worked tirelessly to protect our career field as massage therapists. He is the voice that speaks to our best interest which strengthens the massage therapy industry in Massachusetts. He spoke of one piece of legislature that would define alternative therapies for pain management. As more consumers seek massage therapy for pain relief, this action is critical for massage therapists to become recognized and accepted as health care professionals.
