Thank you from Austin Voices!

Thank you to all of our friends and supporters for your partnership in 2017. This has been a truly amazing year of helping students, schools and families grow and be more successful.

Here are a few statistics:

Through our 8 campus-based Family Resource Centers, we helped over 2,400 AISD families with supports, including housing, access to healthcare, employment, utility assistance, food, clothing and other needs that led to more kids being in school, every day, ready to learn.

We helped nine schools in Austin, Dallas and El Paso develop community school action plans, using innovative strategies to improve student performance and parent involvement. Over 1,500 teachers, parents and students were involved in planning.

Over 8,000 people benefited from Austin Voices resource fairs at campuses in Austin and El Paso. These events, such as HopeFest at Reagan High School, have become annual traditions uniting the community around their schools.

We mobilized thousands of Texans through our Save Texas Schools effort to advocate for adequate funding for public schools, as well as reduced testing.

We brought over 130 partners together through monthly "community school alliance" meetings at eight campuses to better coordinate support efforts.

We helped dozens of students grow as leaders at Eastside Memorial, Reagan and Akins High School through leadership and after school programs.

This just scratches the surface, but perhaps a phone call from a parent this week says it best . . .

"I just wanted to let you know that your organization has changed my son's life. He has special needs and was at a school last year that just wasn't supportive. We were nervous when we transferred this year, but immediately the Family Resource Center and other groups welcomed us and supported us. My son loves school this year, and I have begun giving back as a volunteer. I can't say enough about your team, and what they mean to families like mine."

You can help us continue the good work in 2018 in several ways:

The Austin Project and Austin Voices have joined!

Austin Voices for Education and Youth (AVEY) and The Austin Project (TAP) announce that the two organizations have joined forces. The continuing organization is AVEY, and will be located in the former TAP offices at 5221 Ledesma Rd.

Both TAP and AVEY have been working collaboratively over the past decade to develop Family Resource Centers and community schools in Austin. Building on the legacy of both TAP and AVEY, we look forward to an amazing road ahead as we work to expand community schools in Texas and beyond.

Mark your calendars for AVEY's "Stand Up for Schools" event at Dell Children's Hospital on Monday, Feb. 12 from noon to 1:30.
We'll honor the legacy of TAP, and announce exciting news as we move into 2018. Look for more details and registration soon.
