Dear Saint Rose Families,

This semester has flown by.  It seems like it was just short while ago that we were gathered for Meet the Teacher.  I hope that this midpoint finds your son or daughter growing in faith, academics and friendships.  Please have a Merry and Happy Christmas with your family and friends.  Enjoy the time away from school. Classes begin on Monday, January 8, 2018!

Sincerely,

Bryon Borgelt

Help keep our school safe!

All visitors/parents must physically sign in at the office before going to any portion of the building.  It is very important for our school's safety that all visitors sign in at the office immediately after entering the school.

Thank you

Santa Visits Kindergarten

Christmas Program 2017

Congratulations to Mrs. Fahim and our Kindergarten - 3rd grade students for a wonderful Christmas program. "The Case of the Reluctant Innkeeper" proved to be quite entertaining and showcased immense talent!

Thank you to Mrs. Croci for capturing such amazing photos of our students!

6th Grade STEM in Literature

The 6th graders recently read a folk tale in Literature class about a boy who is charged with building a bridge for an emperor. Along with focusing on the Language Arts curriculum, the students also learned about what a civil engineer does. To help connect this to the "real world", the students were tasked with building bridges and testing their strength. What a great example of teaching across the curriculum and emphasizing hands-on learning.

7th/8th Grade Fused Glass

The 7th & 8th Grade elective, Fused Glass recently created beautiful Christmas trees as their recent project. Great job students!

3rd Grade Spotlight

The 3rd grade has had quite a bit going on over the past few weeks. Check out all they've been up to below!

In the classroom...

A few of the boys in Ms. Germann's class built models of world landmarks using legos and k'nex sets.  They built Burj Khalifa and the Empire State Building.

Students also created ceramic angels in Art class.

Outside the classroom...

3rd graders recently visited the Toledo Museum of Art.  Their visit included a special tour of the glass pavilion.

Third grade students pictured with Sister Joy Gray -  principal of St. Rose School 1982-1993

Our third grade students recently visited the Ursuline Center as part of our yearlong celebration of St. Rose School's 150th anniversary.  For many years, the Ursuline Sisters taught and ministered to the
students of Saint Rose School, going all the way back to 1916.

The third graders spent some time visiting with the sisters and residents of the Ursuline Center.  They attended Mass, enjoyed lunch, and took a tour of the center.  The children also created gift bags filled with tissues, note cards, stamps, and snacks for the sisters.  This was a wonderful outreach and service opportunity, connecting our present students with an important part of our school's past.  Way to go third graders!

Counselor's Corner                               Dec. 2017

This month's lesson will focus on the Lifeskill of Problem Solving and we all have to think about solutions to problems in our daily lives. There may be time when asking for help is necessary to problem solve as well.

Guidance Lesson Recap:
Grade K: We read the story Knuffle Bunny Tooby Mo Willems that was about a little girl who had a problem of losing something special. In the story, she had to figure out who to go to for help and how to find a solution to her problem. As a class, we talked about the many problems students can have and we talked about the many people who can help either at school or at home.

Grades 1/2/3:We read the story The Gingerbread Girl Goes Animal Crackers by Lisa Campbell Ernst. The story was about a little gingerbread girl who's friends escaped and she tries to get them back. Throughout the story, she comes up with many ways to solve her problem. As a class, we discussed many strategies that we use to solve our problems in our every day lives.

Grades 4: As a class, we read the story Saint Francis and the Wolf by Richard Egielski. The story was about how when there is a problem it is best to solve it with kindness, rather than being mean. As a class, we talked about many situations that require us to come up with solutions and it is best to come up with solutions that would be done out of respect.

Grades 5: We read the story The Little Reindeer by Michael Foreman. The story was about a boy who got a surprise present of a Christmas reindeer. Throughout the story, there were many instances that required problem solving and as a class we discussed the thought and insight it takes to come up with solutions. We also talked about many situations in class that require thoughtful solutions.

Grades 6-8: As a class, we read the story The Day Santa Stopped Believing in Harold by Maureen Fergus. The story was about the magic of Christmas and throughout the story it incorporated many situations that required problem solving. As a class, we discussed the process it takes to come up with positive solutions when a problem arises.

RECYCLING COLLECTION FOR NON-FUNCTIONING CHRISTMAS LIGHT STRANDS AND TATTERED FLAGS

We are three eighth graders at Saint Rose School who are working to put into practice the message of Laudato Si "Care of God's Creation:  Land."   In an effort to reduce the waste in our landfills, we are collecting and will recycle non-functioning Christmas light strands.  The metal inside the strands can be re-used.

We will also collect tattered flags so that they are properly disposed of.   We will be collecting these items from Nov. 26 - Jan. 15 (with the exception of Dec. 23-25).

Items can be placed in a box outside of Door B, the western entrance to the Gym.
Please contribute to loving the earth by recycling these items!  Thank you.

Middle School Annual Ski/Snowboard Trip
Scheduled for February 1, 2018

The annual Saint Rose middle school ski trip is back. The purpose of the trip is to provide our students with the opportunity to try something new, have some fun and bond as middle school students. We will also connect the trip to our science curriculum.

Students will travel by Blue Lakes Bus for this one day trip. We depart from Saint Rose School at 8:00 am and return around 7 pm. Students need to arrive and be on the bus by 7:45 am. We will head to Mad River Mountain. This is a perfect trip for beginners and more advanced skiers. Lessons are offered free of charge and the staff does a nice job of making sure the kids are ready for the mountain.  All students will be provided a lift ticket, rental, lesson, helmet and lunch. Parents may want to send extra money for snacks during the day as well as a quick stop at a fast food spot on the way back to school. Space is limited to 100 students. Payment is due Friday, January 12.

Saint Rose understands that skiing is not an interest that all of students share. Students that do not attend the trip will participate in fun activities at school.

Cost= $70
