Holiday-themed programs continue tonight, the longest night of the year, with Paul Winter's annual winter solstice concert. On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, we share the best holiday music and stories of Christmases past and present. New Year's Eve brings the jazziest musical revelry to ring in 2018 with
Toast of the Nation. And we can't let the old year go without making fun of all the news that was, Capitol Steps-style.

Now Playing on a Smart Speaker Near You... KGOU!
With an estimated one-fifth of U.S. households now having a smart speaker, and more expected to buy one or receive one this holiday season, the home assistant is the wave of the future. NPR's digital team is working closely with leading voice-activation technology companies to improve functionality for NPR's podcasts and member station audio streams.
Right now, Google Home and Amazon's Alexa-enabled devices respond to the command, "Play KGOU." Soon that same command will start our audio stream on Apple's HomePod, expected to be available early in 2018. NPR has all the how-to's:

Ask Me Another episode. Host Ophira Eisenberg and musician Jonathan Coulton try to melt the icy heart of puzzle guru Ebenezer Scrooge. Special guests Anthony Ramos (

She's Gotta Have It) and Merriam-Webster dictionary editor Kory Stamper are visited by three spirits and play games inspired by the past, present, and future. Tune in Saturdays at 6 p.m. or Sundays at 10 a.m. for all the fun.

Jeopardy! Devotes Category to Robert Siegel
Answer: He's hosted
All Things Considered for 30 years. Question: Who is Robert Siegel? In honor of his upcoming last day in the host's chair on Jan. 5,
Jeopardy! included an entire category titled "Robert Siegel Signs Off" with the man himself narrating the answers.
NPR has announced more host changes on
ATC: Mary Louise Kelly will join the show permanently as co-host mid-January,
and Kelly McEvers is stepping away from the show to focus full-time on her podcast, Embedded.

Ticket Giveaway ~ The Hunts Bring Alt-Folk to OCCC

The Hunts are a Chesapeake, Virginia-based band made up of seven brothers and sisters who've been playing music together almost their entire lives. Ranging in age from 16 to 24, Jenni, Jessi, Josh, Jonathan, Jordan, Justin, and Jamison bring their harmonious alt-folk music to
Oklahoma City Community College on Tuesday, Jan. 23. We'll give away pairs of tickets in a random drawing.
