World Vets to Increase Veterinary Assistance for Small Animals in Asia

Small animal veterinary field project: Siem Reap, Cambodia 2017

This past month World Vets had veterinary teams in Cambodia and Nepal providing high volume sterilization campaigns for small animals. Both projects sought to help control the local dog and cat population and in turn limit the number of unwanted and unowned animals in the streets.

In Cambodia, many unwanted cats and dogs are abandoned at local pagodas where they are then cared for by  Buddhist monks.  As such, our efforts this year focused on these particular animals as well as those owned by local pet owners with limited resources. We also administered rabies vaccinations for dogs as rabies is a prevalent issue in the country.

Our project in Nepal specifically targeted street dogs living in and around Kathmandu. We partnered with a local animal shelter who went out each day to collect dogs and when fully recovered, were returned to where they were originally found. Most dogs were in very rough shape, which resulted in our team treating a wide range of issues, aside from performing routine spay/neuter.

World Vets is happy to report that we will be continuing both of these small animal projects in 2018!

We are also excited to announce that we will be increasing our veterinary assistance for small animals in Asia. With that being said, we will have more volunteer opportunities in the coming year to this region of the world.

Stay tuned and stay glued to our  upcoming volunteer opportunities. However, if you would like to receive email notifications when volunteer registration opens and/or to have the chance to sign up early, we invite you to become a member of World Vets.
