BUSINESS AS MISSION SWOT meeting

 8:30 am to 10:30 am - Monday, February 5, 2018

The Barnabas Group is the only collaboration of leaders dedicated to maximizing ministry potential by meeting nonprofit challenges with business perspectives to advance Kingdom work .

You're invited to apply to participate in our next SWOT meeting.

Encompass World Partners https://www.encompassworldpartners.org  is a mission sending agency serving 228 people groups in 34 countries across the globe.  Business as Mission (BAM) is a growing part of Encompass' strategy.  It has grown from simple businesses like women making jewelry in the Philippines to operating an extreme sports chalet in the mountains of Japan and a cashmere export business in Central Asia.

While BAM is a powerful tool for creating relational bridges and gaining access where it might not otherwise be possible, it also brings about many challenges.  Employment and compensation issues get complex. Which activities are "missionary" (donor supported) and which ones are business (company paid)?  Ownership of the business (mission-owned or employee-owned?) and use of profits (and liability for losses) are big questions. Add into that the diversity of U.S. and foreign laws.

The  BIG QUESTION  we'll address at this SWOT is:

What BAM-related policies and practices should Encompass implement to ensure missional effectiveness, organizational sustainability, and compliance with US and international law?
