Looking for a professional development opportunity at the Annual Meeting? Plan to attend a short course on Wednesday, August 30. They provide diverse opportunities, either half day or full day, for professional development and offer attendees the chance to connect with scholars from a range of backgrounds.  Pre-registration for short courses is required. APSA invites PhD candidates to apply to participate in dissertation workshops on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, in San Francisco, in advance of the 2017 Annual Meeting. Two workshops are offered, one on Comparative Political Theory and one on US Congressional Politics. Application deadline is May 15, 2017.  Apply for a workshop now!  
APSA Connect Upgrades
Keep an eye on your inbox for info on upgrades coming to APSA Connect. We're working to make it easier for members to participate in discussion forums with the ability to reply directly from their preferred e-mail inbox. A revamped document library and member directory will make it easier for members to find the documents and connections they need. Sections will be able to host their own publicly accessible websites on the popular WordPress platform, currently running 27% of the web. If you'd like information on how your section can start to take advantage of these new features, contact Dan Gibson, director of communications and marketing.
Programs & Initiatives 
APSA members have access to the most comprehensive database of jobs related to political science, known as e-Jobs.  APSA departmental members have access to post unlimited job listings on our e-Jobs site as a part of their departmental membership.  Access e-Jobs.
Next deadline is June 15. 
The Centennial Center is accepting applications from APSA members for a wide array of supplemental research grants. Funding for an individual scholar is between $1,000 and $2,500. For more information, visit Centennial Center grants.

Have you or one of your colleagues received an award for excellence in teaching? APSA would like to know! Each year, APSA recognizes political science faculty who have won teaching awards on their own campuses during the past academic year. Submit your nominations!
APSA is pleased to announce the next phase of our engagement with political scientists in the Arab Middle East and North Africa. With continued support from Carnegie Corporation of New York, we extend our commitment to enhancing the scholarly networks of early-career political science faculty from the MENA region through 2019.  For program news, updates, and additional information, visit the  MENA Workshops website . The MSRP connects undergraduate students from underrepresented backgrounds who are interested in or show potential for graduate study with graduate programs interested in recruiting diverse cohorts of doctoral students.  PhD department officers can enroll their departments online through their APSA accounts .
 
Faculty can enroll their students or students can enroll themselves in the database by filling out the online form.


APSA members in Washington, DC, for the  March for Science on Saturday, April 22, 2017, are invited to APSA's offices in nearby Dupont Circle for an open house to mark the event. The Association  strongly endorses the March for Science, a nonpartisan event that "champions robustly funded and publicly communicated science as a pillar of human freedom and prosperity."  


APSA 2017 Council Nominees by Petition
Along with the slate of nominees selected by the Nominating Committee, available here , APSA accepts additional nominees for Officers and at-large members of the Council by petition of 50 members. Nominations by petition should be submitted to the president via [email protected] and should include the candidate consent form and official nomination form .
 
Petitions must be signed by a minimum of 50 current APSA members and must include the name, affiliation, and email address of each signatory. APSA membership for supporting signatories must be valid on the date that the candidate nominations are received at [email protected]. Nominations by petition must be submitted no later than May 20, 2017.
Publications
Meet the new editors on Perspectives on Politics and learn about their vision for the journal.  APSA selected a team from the University of Florida, Professor Michael Bernhard, who will serve as editor, and Professor Daniel O'Neill, who will serve as associate editor. Both are faculty members in the university's department of political science.

APSA has more than 40 sections that give you the opportunity to join a group of your peers who share a common interest in a particular subfield. Organized Sections are a great way to engage with like-minded colleagues, encourage the study of political science, and find outlets for research and opportunities for scholarship. Sections have become a vital part of the association by sponsoring panels at the Annual Meeting, producing informative newsletters, and recognizing scholarly achievements of their members.
