Alchemy for a Colorful Life
Join Robert Bosnak for a live 10-class online course on Jung Platform, as he teaches how alchemy can add more color to our lives and enrich the experiences we live daily.
Alchemy is regarded as one of humankind's earliest attempts to transform the nature of consciousness. This ancient marriage of science and mystery was introduced into the collective again by Carl Jung, who had a series of dreams which sparked his interest in the parallel between his own discoveries of the unconscious psychic life, and the medieval art of Alchemy.
Jung said: "Only after I had familiarized myself with alchemy did I realize that the unconscious is a process, and that the psyche is transformed or developed by the relationship of the ego to the contents of the unconscious."
Yet, the traditional notion of psychology is usually a rational notion - one where you separate matter and mind - whereas the alchemists worked with the living imagination, which was fully embodied.
And although Jung's thoughts on alchemical psychology include this, his approach to
alchemical psychology was based mainly on polarity.
It worked well in a world of fixed identities. But in our era of multiple genders and varying cultural truths living side by side (sometimes peacefully, often violently), polarity can no longer be our exclusive lens. It belongs to a predictable and walled-off mentality of us and them, which is inadequate for our world's current state of chaotic turbulence with its displaced peoples and its exponential technological innovations.
Today's world requires a chromatic attitude with a kaleidoscopic multitude of colors living closely together in small dabs, forming an unpredictable and intricate social network and community.
Alchemical psychology matters today because, as its many colours merge and exist simultaneously, it creates a rich and colorful backdrop to our wild and dangerously creative lives. It creates an opening for our lives to be more flexible, elastic and resilient.
The Alchemy for a Colourful Life course will zoom in and explore the mercurial color palette of alchemical processes: with its beginners' greens and doleful black nights of war; the sad deeper blues and the heavenly blue hues of scintillating sparks; rainbow peacock tails shimmering with new possibilities; silver mirrors reflecting back at us; the yellow underground fermentation of stone; and golden sunrises chasing away the shadows of night while it transforms every landscape it touches.
These colors are all states of mind, ways of being and cultural patterns existing together cohesively in the exciting yet painful chromatic bursts that are our day and age.
Join Robert Bosnak on this 10-class course as he navigates participants through how they may dive into, embrace and embody a colourful and more meaningful life by applying alchemical palettes and processes.
Amongst the intimate examples from everyday life garnered over long years of professional psychotherapeutic practice and personal experience, there will also be moments when participants may present vignettes from their own lives so they can be looked at through various color lenses.
Bosnak will also present a backdrop from the biographies of Steve Jobs, Nikola Tesla and Maya Angelou, in order to explore the colorful alchemy of creative intelligence as a means to highlight how participants may tap into and bring into being their own creative energy.
