Burke Market Opening April 29
We are looking forward to our first day at the  Burke Farmers Market  on Saturday, April 29. The market is held in the Burke VRE parking lot every Saturday through December 16 from 8 am to noon. The Burke Market is organized and managed by the  Fairfax County Park Authority .  We're especially excited to have the opportunity to extend our market season into December with the Burke Farmers Market.

Planting and Bloom Time
Besides harvesting Asparagus and Rhubarb, the past two weeks have been all about planting. Planting Parsnip seeds. Planting 250 lbs. of shallots. Planting 6 rows of red and black raspberry canes. Planting two more rows of Grapes. Planting more Honeycrisp, Crimsoncrisp and Crimson Topaz apple trees. And much, much more! Have a guess at how many onions transplants we planted last week (they're on the 3 trailers in the photo)? 38,000!!! Whew, that's a lot of onions. Let's hope they have a super healthy crop year.

Along with planting time, Spring also brings the orchard bloom. The blossoms on the fruit trees have been beautiful this season, but the heat has really moved things fast! Peaches and nectarines were in full bloom last Wednesday, and have already shucked their petals. Now the Apples and Cherries are at full bloom, and boy do they have a lot of blossoms!! Check out the GoldRush and Pink Lady apple trees in our Spindle Trellis block in the photo.

Thankfully, we don't see any concerning cold weather in the forecast that could affect any of the bloom at this time, so full steam ahead. Besides the Apricots and Japanese Plums that were damaged back in March, all the other tree fruits and berries look like they will be producing a bumper crop this year. Can you say hooray? Because we sure can!!
