Insha'allah, Rising Star Academy will be hosting the 9th N
orthern NJ Inter-Islamic Schools Spelling Bee Competition on May 9, 2018 for grades KG - 4th, and on May 10, 2018 for grades 5th -8th!
Spelling Bee lists were distributed today to all students in grades KG - 8th . Lists will be posted also on Sycamore. This year three schools accepted RSA's invitation to this academic tournament.
Islamic Schools that will be participating this year are:
1. Academy of Greatness and Excellence in Teaneck, NJ
2. Al-Noor School in Brooklyn, NY
3. Pillars Prepratory Academy in South River, NJ
The Spelling Bee will consist of 3 segments:
- The first segment will consist of the Preliminary Rounds (In-Class Spelling Bee) where your child will compete against his/her classmates. Five students will be chosen from this round to represent their class and compete in the second segment.
- The second segment is the Semifinal Round. Two students will be chosen to represent RSA in the Final round against the other Islamic schools. Parents are encouraged to attend this round.
- The third and final round will be the competition against the four participating Islamic schools.
Follow the format below while practicing with your child:
Say the word...Spell the word... Say the word.
For example:
Say: "after". "a-f-t-e-r". "after".
INCENTIVE FOR STUDENTS:
Students who make it to the final round and receive 1st , 2nd or 3rd place will earn 3, 2 or 1 point respectively to their English or Spelling final average for the 4th marking period.
Dates to remember:
The Preliminary Round of the spelling bee will be held on
February 1, 2018!
The Semifinal round of the spelling bee will be held on
March 1, 2018!
The Final round that will include the five other Islamic schools which will be held on:
May 9, 2018 for KG - 4th Grades
&
May 10, 2018 for 5th - 8th Grades.
