Congress Continues to Focus on Reversing Regulations and Presidential Cabinet  Appointments

The House of Representatives will meet for an abbreviated session so Democratic lawmakers can attend their annual policy retreat in Baltimore, MD later in the week. The House plans to continue to reverse certain Obama administration regulations using its power under the Congressional Review Act. The Congr essional Review Act gives Congress the ability to review and overrule new  federal regulations  issued by government agencies within 60 legislative days  of the implementation of the regulation. Among the regulations that the House will look to try to overturn are two Education Department rules and a Bureau of Land Management rule. The Senate will continue to consider President Trump's cabinet selections, with a procedural vote scheduled on the nomination of Betsy DeVos to be the next Education Secretary early this week. Additionally, appointments such as Gov. Rick Perry (TX) to be the next Energy Secretary and Rep. Ryan ZInke (MT) to be the next Interior Secretary will likely come to the Senate floor in the near future.
