ASSOCIATE PASTOR SEARCH COMMITTEE
ANNOUNCES RECOMMENDATION

Daniel Headrick, wife Jenney,
and their children Mary Frances and Joseph

The Northside Drive Baptist Church Associate Pastor Search Committee, appointed by the Nominating Committee in October of last year, has completed its search and recommends that NDBC "call" Daniel C. Headrick to be the church's new Associate Pastor.   Daniel and his family will be visiting NDBC on May 20-21, 2017. There will be opportunities for the church to meet them; and he will assist in leading worship. The "call" will be subject to a vote of the congregation in a special Church-in-Conference meeting following worship on May 21, 2017.
Daniel is a 38-year old native of Tennessee, currently living in Woodway, Texas, just outside of Waco.   He has served as Senior Pastor at Willow Grove Baptist church in Moody, Texas; and over the last five years, has been a teacher and leader of college student Sunday School classes and young adult bible studies at Seventh and James Baptist Church where he will be ordained next month. Before that, he was an active lay leader in the First Baptist Church of Knoxville.
Daniel came to the ministry after a number of years in the practice of law in Knoxville, where he specialized in the areas of product liability, employment, and other civil litigation matters.   Just before being named a partner in the firm of Paine Bickers, LLP, Daniel felt God's call.
He graduated Magna Cum Laude in his Bachelor of Arts in Religion program at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and later earned his Master of Arts in Philosophy, with a religious studies concentration, at UT. He earned his Juris Doctor degree, Summa Cum Laude, from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2007, and will complete his Masters of Divinity at Baylor's Truett Theological Seminary in May 2017.
Daniel and his wife Jenney have two young children, Mary Frances (9) and Joseph (6).   Jenney is a physician with an internal medicine practice in Waco, and intends to continue her medical career after relocating to Atlanta.
It is the unanimous view of the Search Committee members that Daniel has the background and the personal characteristics to be a very effective Associate Pastor and a strong partner for James Lamkin across the full spectrum of ministry work at NDBC.   He has a special interest in working with the young singles and families and he demonstrates special interest and skill in pastoral care. It is also clear that Daniel is comfortable and very supportive of NDBC's commitment to inclusiveness. He's anxious to work with James and to continue to learn and grow as part of our ministerial team. Perhaps equally important as Daniel's training and preparation for the ministry, he and Jenney are warm, approachable, and develop new relationships easily-"our kind of folks".
Over the coming weeks there will be further information on the events associated with Daniel's "call weekend" at NDBC, May 20-21, when he and his family will come to meet everyone. We anticipate they can relocate and be ready to begin ministry with us by about July 1.

"Easter Eucharisto"

In case you need to know how to say, "Thank You," in Greek, it is something like:
Eucharisto!
Yes, it does sound like Eucharist, the celebration of Holy Communion, the Great Thanksgiving. Think about that the next time we share the Lord's Supper or pass the paten or dip in the chalice. You are saying, "Thank you."
Since the Season of Easter lasts for 50 Great Days, why not make them days of gratitude? I'll start.
Sanctuary Choir. You showed-up! From each Sunday's Lenten gift, to Easter Sunday's Hallelujah, with Ash Wednesday and Maundy Thursday in between.
Flower Ministry Team. "In the beauty of the lilies...," you had the chancel blossoming with the bounty of Easter. We have Virginia Gilbert and friends to thank for that. For your planning and wrangling and extra effort (who knew lilies were so top heavy?), I am so grateful.
NDBC Staff Jesus seems awfully jealous this time of year. Extra printing and prep and services and serving are required. Plus, there's the clean-up after Good Friday! Thanks to all who worked late: Rose, Audrey, Keith, Anna Kate, David, Elaine, Jeffrey, Jeff, and Mary Lou. If this crew had been called on to bury Jesus, it would have been "mission accomplished" well before sundown.
Good Friday Homilists and Musicians. They opened the Good Book, and opened-up their good hearts. Thank you, Karen, Jill, Zeke, Jeffrey, Caitlyn, Jeff, and Anna Kate. Plus, musicians: Alan, Joel, Jada, Keith, and Jeff.
The Choral Stations of the Cross. Neither the Worship and Music Ministry Team, nor I, knew what to do with this request...at first. We had several liturgical questions. But, the DNA of NDBC, rose up; and a theology of hospitality led our hearts. I am so glad we did it. It was a mitzvah...a good deed that has saving implications.
Rogues 'Round the Cross. Didn't we have a fine time! With some angular exegesis of biblical biographies, plus some almost
Sacred Harp singing, God was in the midst. For the Thursday night attendees' dedicated intention, I am grateful.
Good Neighbor Team.  The timing of your efforts as we welcomed the Zada refugee family from Afghanistan, was perfect. There is a reciprocity in our giving and receiving...like Easter.
Associate Pastor Search Committee. They have done and are doing, good work. I have delighted in watching "church" happen among the committee, as they discern, relate, and meet people where they are (to quote their chair, Jack Guynn).
Eucharisto,I say. Thank God for Easter...and Easter people.

Reception Following
April 23, 2017
April 23rd's Tummy and Soul event will be the first of an annual fundraiser to benefit the work of Urban Recipe, an Atlanta non-profit that provides food for those who need it most in a way that affirms dignity and builds community.
For 25+ years, Urban Recipe has been doing this through its unique member-run food co-op model, by which those in need become members of a 50 family co-op, meet every other week throughout the year, and work together to distribute over a ton of food at every co-op meeting.
This year's inaugural Tummy and Soul has a special dual focus--to celebrate Urban Recipe's 25th anniversary and to honor the work and leadership of Founder and long-time Director, Chad Hale.
Tummy and Soul will be held from 4 - 7 PM on April 23rd at a beautiful gallery in Midtown Atlanta called Mason Fine Art, whose owner Mark Karelson has graciously donated the space for the evening.
     The event will include:
  • small bites and a bar,
  • live music and a special program to honor Chad,
  • a photo series on "The People of Urban Recipe" by Atlanta photographer Johnathon Kelso,
  • paintings by the late Constance Hawkins, a folk artist and former Urban Recipe Co-op member,
  • the launching of the Chad Hale Legacy Fund, with special donations being used further the expansive vision and long-term dedication of Chad Hale.

Sunday, April 23rd, the youth are communing together around a table at a local restaurant. In the midst of a busy school life and work, we are intentionally taking time to be in fellowship with one another. Invite your friends to join us immediately after the worship service on April 23rd. We will gather in the Narthex and ride together. If you have any questions, please contact Jeffrey Dunkerley at

We had a wonderful Easter Egg Hunt this past Sunday after worship! After a group effort of filling over 1200 eggs, the children had a blast hunting for them and seeing what goodies they got. We had over 35 children total and lots of families and friends from the community. We are thankful for these children and the joy they bring to our church family!!
