Islamic Mystics: The History and Significance of the Sufis
Sunday, May 7 at 9:00 am in the Bloom Room

This session will provide a brief review of the key teachings of Islam, explain how and why its mystical tradition developed, and introduce the beautiful writings of several individual Sufis. The works of Medieval poet Rumi remain among the world's best sellers.

Suzanne Morrison describes herself as a “spiritual mutt”, having been a Protestant, an atheist, an agnostic, a Buddhist, and simply an individual who is fascinated by many of the diverse religions found on this planet. She holds a Ph.D. in Religious Studies and currently teaches Religion courses at Pima Community College.
The Case for Universal Salvation
Sunday, May 14 at 9:00 am in the Bloom Room

This class will examine evidence, both biblical and theological, for universal salvation. We do this first by exploring the purpose of hell in the NT (asking whether divine justice is meant to be retributive or restorative) and then by examining gospel passages supporting the notion of ultimate salvation for all people.

Dr. Karen O. Borek teaches courses in religious studies at the University of Arizona and Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC.
Sermons on Tap
Sunday, May 14 at 11:45 am in the Bloom Room

Ever leave worship on Sunday and wish you could talk about the sermon with others? Why not join like-minded folks for an open discussion of the day's sermon over beer and sandwiches? This small group is for anyone with a desire to connect more deeply with others and a willingness to explore their own questions about how we live into the "good news" as preached at GSP. The setting will be informal and relaxed. No need to register, come anytime. All are welcome! Beer, iced tea, and a light lunch will be available. Donations will be accepted to cover the costs of lunch.
Dreams: God’s Forgotten Language
Sunday, May 21 at 9:00 am in the Bloom Room

Are you curious about the meaning of your dreams? In this class we will look at the role of dreams in the Bible, discuss various forms of dream interpretation, and provide techniques to cultivate a practice of recognizing and experiencing the Spirit in these phenomena of everyday life.

Catherine Penn Williams has been working with her dreams for over 25 years and has previously led dream groups at GSP. She is a Jungian psychotherapist in private practice.

3rd Friday Film Series for Spring 2017
Priests on Film: The Struggle to Serve
Adam’s Apples (Danish, 2005)
Friday, May 19 at 7:00 pm in the Bloom Room (Note: There is no potluck before this film)

The ministry of priesthood has varied widely for those who have served in that capacity throughout human religious history. This spring our film series offers a look at three different cinematic examples of priestly service—and struggle. In the black comedy-drama Adam’s Apples (Danish, 2005) Ivan, a priest in a rural church where the rectory serves as a halfway house for paroled convicts, sees the world through rose-colored glasses. When Adam, a neo-Nazi, arrives for 12 weeks, he is baffled by the priest’s optimism and vows to break Ivan's faith. Join us for this modern and unique nod to the Book of Job.

Hosts Vicki and Joe Stefani are involved in a variety of ministries at GSP; Joe also serves on the vestry. Both are retired from the University of Arizona, where each taught writing and Vicki also taught literature and film. Click here for a downloadable flyer.
Understanding Scripture
For Everyone: Coffee, Bagels
and Bible Stuff
Every Thursday from 7:30-8:30 am in the Weeks Room

Join a diverse group in a discussion of the Bible. In our second year many are attending their first bible study and are enjoying the attempt to put the weekly readings into historical prospective while finding current application.

All materials are provided. Drop-ins are welcome, and we start and end on time.

Facilitated by Bill Moore, GSP Junior Warden.

Bible Women
2 Fridays, May 5 & 19 from 10:30-11:30 am in the Weeks Room

What do the voices of women in scripture have to say to us about our own lives, regardless of our gender? This class studies the Bible through the words of women in the Old and New Testaments. The focus is on actual scripture and its contexts; an optional text, Bible Women: All Their Words and Why They Matter by Lindsay Hardin Freeman is available through Amazon.

The group meets twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Friday. No registration is necessary and participants are welcome to join the group at any time.

For more information contact Vicki Stefani at 520-743-3978.
Weekly Small Group Discussions
Sharing Our Spiritual Journeys
Every Monday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm in the Bloom Room
[No meeting on Monday, May 29]

Each week, in this small discussion group, we focus on a different intersection between spirituality, religion, and culture. We view short videos (10-15 min) by scholars and authors such as Richard Rohr, Marcus Borg, Diana Butler Bass, Christena Cleveland and other innovative church thinkers. The conversation is always a surprise and takes us where the Spirit guides.

Each session stands alone and participants are welcome anytime.

Co-facilitated by Brian Arthur, Jim Franks and Catherine Penn Williams.
Saturday Java Jive:
