The Greater Burlington Leadership class will be hosting an alleyway cleanup day today from 9 AM - 3 PM. Additional volunteers are needed to help make the day successful. Cleanup efforts will include picking up trash and removing unwanted vegetation and graffiti. Registration will start at 9 AM in the annex of the Capitol Theater; lunch will be provided for the volunteers. Please contact Michelle McGraw i f you are interested in helping.
On April 22, participants of all ages are invited to come out for the annual Earth Day Clean Up. Volunteers can register at the Port of Burlington beginning at 8:30 AM to get t-shirts, bags and gloves. After going out to pick up litter, they return to the Port for free lunch, door prizes, and a group photo. For more information, call 319-753-8151.
DPI is hosting a Commercial Space Open House for people considering relocating, expanding, or opening a business in downtown Burlington. Visit available spaces from 
1 - 3 PM on April 23 and discuss the commercial opportunities with knowledgeable representatives. The event is free and open to the public. Start in the lobby of the Burlington Apartments at 206 N. What:   Great Prairie Area Education Association (GPAEA) and Iowa Learn Excel Achieve and Develop (ILEAD) invite your business to attend a Partners-Students Think Tank Day.   
ILEAD is a new program for juniors and seniors in Southeastern Iowa, where they will engage in authentic learning by partnering with local businesses and industry to receive high school credit. We hope to maintain a win-win with both partners and students in this 21st Century style of learning. Lunch will be included.

With Main Street Iowa and the Iowa Economic Development Authority, DPI presents the Open 4 Business competition for either a new or expanding for-profit business locating in downtown Burlington. Three chosen local applicants will pitch their business concepts to DPI, with the winner competing to be a semifinalist in June for a chance at $8,000. What:  Players Workshop will present "Death by Chocolate," a spoof of the old film noir genre of the 1930s and '40s. This zany mystery tells the story of washed-up PI Nick Noir, who encounters a host of unusual and endless suspects as he attempts to solve the mysterious death of the coffee shoppe customer who was poisoned with the signature drink, Death by Chocolate.

What:  Great River Diabetes Education Programs offers four-week group diabetes classes every month for people newly diagnosed, making a change in treatment, or having complications or concerns. A physician referral for diabetes education is required. Most insurance companies cover the fee for the class series, and a family member or friend is encouraged to attend at no additional cost.
