Professional Courses:
Organizational Behaviour (Starts April 21)
(Core Course) Explores the theory and practice of the organization in three major parts: the organizational environment, the organizational structure, and the behavior of groups and individuals within an organization. Topics will include the social role of managers, organizational structure, individual perception, motivation, decision making and leadership, communication, teamwork, and stress in the work place. Registration deadline: April 12th
Incident Investigation (Starts May 13)
(Enrichment Seminar) This seminar will step you through the investigation of "unplanned events." Learn the critical parts of the initial response, securing the area, gathering evidence, interviewing techniques, documentation, role of various stakeholders, reporting formats, etc. Also learn the primary reasons for performing incident investigations. Registration deadline: April 28th

Certificate in Positive Leadership 
Unlock the power of Positive Leadership to drive your team's performance, creativity and innovation in the workplace. Positive Leadership is where positive psychology and appreciative inquiry meet best practices in transformational leadership. Courses can be taken together or individually.
You will learn the basics, from your camera's built-in flash to the use of external flash, as well as learning how to use your flash creatively. This course is ideal for those interested in portrait, product, and interior architectural photography. Take ALL 3 Outdoor, Introduction to Flash and Night Photography
 
Motorcycle Instruction (Starts April 24)
Motorcycle Riding Instruction, offered in cooperation with Alberta Safety Council, provides on-bike practical instruction suitable for any inexperienced or previous riders. Advanced skills are taught by trained, experienced instructors. After taking this course, some insurance companies may offer a reduced insurance rate.
 
Gain the knowledge to make an informed choice about the camera you choose to buy, or recognize the potential and limitations of the camera you currently own.
Topics include:
*    Features of digital images and printing
*    Camera features that will get you out of 'Auto' mode
*    Zoom, exposure settings, flash, and more
 
The Pencil is the Medium (Starts May 4)
You will be learning the basics of drawing with a pencil, line variation, texture and values. Pencil grades and their use, working techniques and processes will also be covered in this class. This class is intended for beginners and those who want more practice with their drawing skills.
 
A Cha Cha lesson adds fun to your dancing through its syncopated steps and many open movements. When you can dance many interesting combinations with ease, you and your partner will be able to feel the pulsating Latin rhythms which make this dance so fascinating.

Take home your very own garden stake to add to your flower bed. You will learn the basics of chalk paint, different painting techniques, stencils, distressing and how to use clear & dark wax. Join us for our class right before Mother's Day for a great mother/daughter project.
 
Basics of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (Stick Welding) (Starts April 10)
This course will introduce the different aspects of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) including identification of consumables, joint preparation.

Life Skills Coaching

What is it? Life Skills Coaches Training is intended to provide participants with the skills necessary to design and deliver Life Skills lessons in the areas of self, family, community, leisure, and employment. Through the use of experiential tools and techniques learners will have the opportunity to apply the Life Skill methodology to a variety of lessons that enhance behaviour change and use of problem solving strategies. This program is eligible for the Canada-Alberta Job Grant which reimburses 2/3 of employee training costs. .
 
Topics covered will include: individual learning styles, how to implement a lesson plan template for adult education, practice giving and receiving feedback on presentation skills, utilize a 6-step problem solving strategy, understand the stages of group development, discuss adaptations for different client-group needs, increasing your confidence as a facilitator.
 
Who is it for? Life Skills Coaches Training is for group leaders who work in social services, career counselling, education, mental health, rehabilitation, foundational skill development, or as consultants and trainers.
 
When is it? Fridays, May 5 - June 2 (9:00am - 5:00pm)
This is a skill development course based on experiential learning principles, thus active participation and full attendance are required for completion.

Glenda Staples, B.A. Psy.
Glenda completed an extensive Life Skill Coach Training in 1987 and has achieved her Life Skills Coaching accreditation through the Association of Life Skills Coaches' of Ontario (ALSCO) and has been published in the ALSCO newsletter as well as contributed to the YWCA Life Skills Manual. Glenda has completed the YWCA Phase 2 training and is trained in the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, True Colors, Strong, Mediation, Restorative Justice and as a Life Coach. For the past 30 years Glenda has worked with individuals supporting them to strive for their dreams while building memories.


Successful Solar Course!
We recently had the opportunity to work with the Canadian Solar Institute to offer a 5 day Solar PV Design and Installation Workshop. We received great feedback from the participants in the course and are excited to be able to offer the course again in the Fall. Canada-Alberta Job Grant
Canada-Alberta Job Grant is now accessible to more employers!
Responding to what employers asked for, the number of training hours required to qualify for the Canada-Alberta Job have been lowered. As of Monday, April 18, 2016, training programs that are a minimum of 21 hours in length will be considered for funding. Applications signed and submitted on or after April 18 will be processed according to the new requirement.
If you are a private or not-for-profit organization you are eligible to receive a job grant for training from the government that will cover 2/3 of your training costs!
  
Details:
Canada-Alberta Job Grant reimburses up to 2/3 of your training cost - up to $10,000 per individual.
  
Grant is employer driven. Employers are responsible for identifying the skills and employee needs and submitting the online forms. 
  
Training must be a minimum of 21 hours but this can include multiple courses being bundled to equal that amount of time.  Training can be e-learning, part-time, full-time, on-site or in a classroom and must result in a form of credential.
  
Employee must be a new or existing employee that will fill current or future job vacancies.
 
In order to receive the grant you must apply one month before the course starts.
