A few weeks ago, on March
8th, Glendale resident, Selena Parker,
90, was sitting alone in her home when
suspects walked right in through her front door and proceeded to rob her. She called the Glendale Police Department who quickly realized that she
needed assistance with securing her home.
The Glendale Police Department, through the Community Action Team decided to contact Vice Mayor Ian Hugh's office to see how
the City may be able to assist. Vice Mayor Hugh stopped in to share the incident with Mayor Weiers. The next day Mayor Weiers shared the story with the Glendale Chamber of Commerce's First Friday breakfast group - many members quickly stepped up and gave cash to help purchase a new door.
On Saturday, March 11th,
city staff took a trip to Lowes to purchase a new door
with the First Friday donations. When the manager of Lowes heard about what happened they decided to donate the door, parts and installation.
By March 15th Selena had her new security door in place. Mayor Weiers, Vice Mayor Hugh, Sgt. Turney and Lowes stopped by a couple weeks later to check in on her and present her with the $100 raised at the First Friday breakfast to replace what was stolen from her.
This is a true reflection of our community at its best, what a wonderful thing to see our community come together to help one another.
