Why All the Buzz about Donor Advised Funds?

It's no secret that giving to Donor Advised Funds has been, and continues to be, on the rise across the nation.  Join us for an informative presentation by senior leaders at Communities Foundation of Texas, including Monica Egert Smith, Chief Relationship Officer, and Carolyn Newham, Senior Director of Donor Relations and Fund Administration, who will discuss the history and utility of this popular tool for charitable giving. You'll learn the do's and don'ts of donor advised funds, as well as the implications for fundraisers looking to match donors with their organization's mission. The CFT team will also share a few inspiring stories of the impact that grants from donor advised funds have had on our community.
Monica Egert Smith

Monica Egert Smith is Chief Relationship Officer of the Communities Foundation of Texas. As CRO, she leads a team that is on the front lines of cultivating new donor relationships, stewarding existing donor relationships, and communicating the CFT story. During Monica's tenure with CFT, she previously served as Senior Director of Strategic Philanthropy, where she served as a philanthropic advisor to CFT donors and fund holders on a variety of community needs and interest areas. In that role, Monica also led CFT's Grantmaking from the W.W. Caruth, Jr. Foundation, which makes transformational investments in the areas of education, public safety and medical research. Prior to joining CFT in 2008, Monica served as Senior Director of Community Services for The Dallas Morning News and WFAA-TV. Monica earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from The Ohio State University.

Carolyn Newham
Carolyn A. Newham is Senior Director of Donor Relations and Fund Administration of the Communities Foundation of Texas. Joining CFT in October 2011, Carolyn's responsibilities include is responsible for developing the overarching strategy and implementation of the CFT's work with professional advisors, private foundations, planned gifts, complex assets and fund holder prospects, developing and managing fund administration protocols and agreements, handling legal and compliance issues, and managing a portfolio of prospects and fundholders. Before CFT she worked five years at Dallas CASA as the Development and Finance Director, as well as positions with Texas CASA and the University of Tulsa. Carolyn received a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Oklahoma, and her law degree from the University of Tulsa.
