50 Year Track Reunion

The 50 year track reunion was held March 3.  The E. D. White Track and Field team first stepped onto the track at St. Joseph Stadium in the Spring of 1967. Nine years later, in 1976, that track would be named the Moose Olivier Track.

While the girls' program has amassed 23 district championships, five regional championships and one state runner-up title, the boys' program has collected five district championships, one regional championship and two state runner-up titles of their own.

The boys' track and field coaches during the 1960s and 1970s are Carol Goulas in 1967, Lance Poimboeuf from 1968 to 1972, Larry Henderson from 1973 to 1975, Cam Morvant in 1976 and Eddie Cole from 1977 to 1979. Cam Morvant headed the girls' track and field team in their inaugural season of 1976 before Coach Eddie Cole took over from 1977 to 1979.

The boys' team won a state runner-up title in 1983, while also adding a district championship and regional championship in 1985. Coach Eddie Cole coached the boys' team from 1980 to 1987, before giving way to Don Grabert who remained in that post for the next 23 years, from 1988 to 2011.

The girls' track and field team won district championships in 1985, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1992 and six straight championships from 1994 to 1999. They also won a regional championship in 1992. Eddie Cole coached the girls' team in 1980. Mary Cavell took over the girls' program from 1981 to 1987 before Coach Cole retook control of the Lady Cardinals for the following 10 years from 1988 to 2008.

The boys' track and field team collected district championships in 2004, 2014, 2015 and 2016, as well as a state runner-up title in 2016. Coach Don Grabert headed the boys' team from 2000 to 2011 before current head coach Tommy Schexnayder took over in 2012.

The girls' teams amassed six consecutive district championships from 2000 to 2005 and another six titles in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. The girls' program won regional championships in 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2013, with their only state runner-up title coming in 2002. Coach Eddie Cole coached the girls' track and field team from 2000 to 2008, ending a 31 year coaching career at E.D. White. Charlotte Smith took over from 2009 to 2011. After guiding the boys' program for the previous 23 years, Don Grabert switched to the girls' side in 2012 and stands in that position today.

50 Year Fishing Team Reunion

The fishing team held its 50th year anniversary tournament March 18.  Zachary Robichaux earned first place honors with big bass of the tournament.  Braden Roger finished first place in the Sac-a-lait division with a nice 1 lb bag.  Every team member walked away with an Academy gift card to purchase baits for their next tournament.

A dream became reality as we began our first fishing team season at EDW in 2011-2012. The Bass Federation/FLW became the lead organization in providing tournaments and scholarship awards for young anglers fishing in the high school circuit. The first local tournament was hosted at Bob's Bayou Black Marina and it was a great success. Alec Naquin and Andrew Hebert were the inaugural 1st place finishers.

In its first year, five teams were sent to the State Championship and placed 10th, 13th , 18th and 21st.Grant Naquin and Trey Dobson were the top fishermen from the team. The same year, EDW also sent four anglers to the World Finals on Lake Dardenelle in Arkansas where anglers represented EDW really well.  Sam Cartozzo, Kolt Clement, Brennen Cooley and Austin Menuet were the top four who fished the World event.

The 2013 State Championships were hosted on Caddo Lake in Shreveport. E. D. White's Grant Naquin and Sam Cartozzo represented well finishing 13th in the State. Brennen Cooley and Austin Menuet finished 18th in the state to close out the year.

The year 2014 brought EDW its first ever State Championship in fishing. After only three years in existence, Brennen Cooley and Ross Martin brought home the championship with an impressive five fish limit of over 17lbs.  The anglers received their championship trophy, championship rings, and a chance to fish a regional televised FLW event.

For the 2014-2015 school year, Brennen Cooley and Ross Martin competed again in the State Championships and finished a very respectable 7th place.  This year also brought expansion for the fishing team into the salt-water division.  Salt-water tournaments began with red and speckled trout tournaments being held.  The annual Grand Isle EDW
tournament has become the final event of the high school tour.

Brennen Cooley and Ross Martin closed out their Senior year with a very difficult tournament on Lake Sibley. The lake was chosen as the floods of 2016 did not allow the anglers to fish the waters where the team won the 2014 Championship.  The team finished a respectable 33rd in the state.

The 2016-2017 fishing year has brought tremendous development for the sport of fishing for high school anglers. Costa and Bassmaster's have developed a new open tournament series for the entire United States in high school fishing. Over 165 boats fished the last tournament. The team now has two organizations to fish and compete for scholarship awards.  The expansion has brought with it more opportunities and bigger sponsorships. Three of the current teams traveled to Toledo Bend to compete in the Costa Bassmaster's series in early March. Rhett Tanner and Zachary Robichaux finished 77th to top the list of EDW teams to fish the tournament. The latest Costa series tournament was held out of Bayou Segnette in Gretna. Adrew Hymel and Tyler Boudreaux competed well and finished 16th overall in the state.

Senior Breakfasts

To celebrate the approaching graduation of the Class of 2017, the E. D. White Alumni Association sponsored the Grandmother/Mother/Daughter Breakfast on March 19, and the Grandfather/Father/Son Breakfast on March 26. Monique Crochet '86 was the speaker for the girls breakfast and Travis Gravois '01 was the speaker for the boys breakfast.

The purpose of this breakfast is to kick off the 2017 graduation season and to set aside time for the different generations of our E. D. White family to visit and to appreciate the importance of one another. Tradition is deeply embedded in the mission that the Sisters of Mount Carmel and the Brothers of the Sacred Heart founded our school upon over 161 years ago, and the Alumni Association strives to keep this spirit alive by hosting this event each year.

Softball Reunion

The 50 year softball reunion was held March 25.  E. D. White Catholic High School started varsity-level women's sports, including softball, in the fall of 1975.

The Lady Cardinals went on to make three appearances in the state quarterfinals in 1991, 1992 and 1998 and were named state runner-up in 1992. The new sport hit E. D. White for the 1973-1974 school year. Tennis courts were completed after a year of construction and encouraged the initiation of a tennis team.

Since its start, the boys' tennis team has had 13 regional championships: '92, '95, '96, '98, '99,' 00, '01, '02, '03, '07, '12, '13 and '14. The boys team were state runners-up in 2014 and a state championship in 2007.
