HOSPICE HAPPENINGS - December, 2017

On behalf of all of the Board of Directors and Staff at Pilgrims Hospice, thank you to every one of you for sharing your time, talents and your treasures with us. We sincerely appreciate each and every gift - and the true beneficiaries of your generosity are those we serve.

On a personal note, thank you for welcoming me to the Pilgrims team earlier this year. I am continually amazed by the support, dedication, compassion and caring that is present in all who pass through our doors. I am honoured to be a part of this team, and I look forward to continuing our good work in 2018 and beyond.

To all of you, from all of us at Pilgrims Hospice, may you enjoy the magic of the Holiday Season and Best Wishes for a Wonderful 2018!

Monica Robson
Executive Director

Support for a Child's Grief
Rory was so young when Kevin's body was found. His Mom, Patty, talked with him throughout the months of his Dad's disappearance - trying to be open and honest with him.
.
"I had conversations you would never envision having with a six-year-old."
"I knew I didn't have the language or understanding of a child's grief, to be able to support Rory through this unimaginably difficult time."

Patty and Rory found life-changing help through the Expressive Arts Program for Grieving Children & Families  at Pilgrims Hospice. Read their full story here.
.
"I will always be so grateful to Pilgrims hospice. Their eyes are not only on the dying but also on the living."
- Patty Milligan

A Star Volunteer
Julie Ketel (pictured above) recently joined Pilgrims as a volunteer for the Saturday morning Expressive Arts Program in Sherwood Park. In a short time, she's become a valuable resource, and source of care & comfort for our youngest participants.

Julie's warmth, smile and energy for the activities guiding grieving children, are genuine and welcomed by all.

Congratulations, Julie  - you've been nominated as our Volunteer of the Month  for your hard work, creativity and lovely presence.

Light in the Dark
Earlier this month, Pilgrims invited guests to come and celebrate the lives of their loved ones, at a special Candlelight Remembrance.

Messages of hope and support were shared with each other during a time of reflection, music and poetry.
Stephanie (pictured above) hangs words of hope for another guest to take home and find solace.
