Observation Week April 17-22

All parents are invited to come into class with their child to see up close what your dancer has learned this year. Information about Etudes, summer dance and class placements for Fall 2017 will be available.
  • We have limited seating; bring your own folding chair or plan to sit on the floor

  • Leave younger siblings at home so your attention can be on your “dancer”

  • Please silence your cell phone and refrain from chit-chat. Help us observe the ballet code of a quiet classroom

  • Help us keep our dance floors clean by removing your street shoes before entering the studio

A note from Miss Kathy...

You may take photos/video but I encourage you to take this opportunity to really watch your child in action and not only through the camera on your phone.

RDA WEEK-Academy closed May 1st - 6th

The Academy will be closed while our upper level dancers and staff attend the Regional Dance America National Festival 2017 in Phoenix, AZ. Over 2000 participants from 80 dance companies from across the U.S. will be in attendance. Ballet Yuma is Arizona's lone representative at the festival.

Participation in Regional Dance America is an important part of our upper level dancers' training. They will take master classes from renown dance professionals and have the opportunity to be seen by university and college recruiters and scouts from the professional dance scene. Seminars are offered on injury, nutrition, musicality and more. Our staff will be observing classes and have the opportunity to take seminars in board development, costuming, yoga and round table discussion groups.

Ballet Yuma dancers will be performing on Wednesday evening May 3rd at Phoenix Symphony Hall. "The Crux" choreographed by BY Artistic Director, Jon Cristofori, was chosen in February by RDA adjudicator, Jeffrey Gribler.

Wish us luck at Festival 2017!

Summer Intensive for our upper level students
All upper level Academy and Ballet Yuma company dancers need to continue classes throughout the summer months. An intermediate/advanced level dancer CANNOT take off for 2 ½ months and expect to make continued progress. Summer is also a perfect time to do concentrated work on technique, strength and artistry without the pressure of academic work. Placement for fall and company standing will be reflective of summer study.

We are holding the full-day Int/Adv summer intensive workshop for 3 weeks in June to allow any dancers going to an outside summer program to be fully prepared physically and reap the expertise of our guest faculty. In July we will continue with the morning technique session for Level 4 and up along with a full day Intermediate summer intensive for our Level 2&3 dancers.
