CMAS testing happened before break - students did a great job! Thanks for all of your support. The PSAT/SAT testing will happen on
April 11th, only students taking those two tests need to attend that day (no freshmen or seniors need to attend). Be sure that students get a good night sleep, eat a good breakfast, and are ready to do their best!
Also in April, the parent satisfaction surveys will be coming home via your student later this month; you can return them via mail or directly to the school and we will mail them for you.
As we head into the final grading period, please continue to support our students by checking on IC and making sure they're on top of their work and deadlines so that we can end the year on a high note!

Phase I: Tree Planting
April 15 11:30am
We need lots of help putting 23 trees in the ground on the "approach" to TJ from Ivanhoe. These trees have been made available by the "Denver Digs Trees" program. We'll have the DPS work trailer on hand with plenty of shovels and gloves. Nick's Garden Center is providing compost and a parent is providing mulch. Landscape design has been provided by TJ Alumni Michael Buchenau of Denver Urban Gardens. This project is the first phase in beautifying TJ's grounds in an effort to better integrate our mid mod architecture with a modern master landscape plan.
Please meet beside TJ's baseball field at immediately following the College 101 workshop. Bring sunglasses and sunscreen, if needed. Students, come earn some community service hours!

Important Attendance Reminders
|
Parents and Guardians,
As a reminder, the key to your student's academic success is coming to school on time and attending every class. Please note that we will not be accepting excused absences for students who are in school and want to miss one class to study or hang out. This is not acceptable. Also, we will require that all seniors have a 92% attendance rate to attend prom and participate in commencement ceremonies. (Seniors can connect with Mr. Skari for how to fix their attendance.)
If your student is struggling and needing academic support, please remember that we have tutoring after school in the library on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Office hours on Wednesday is from 2:15pm-3pm and every student should be connecting with at least one teacher during that time.

The Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment has shared with us that there have been several cases of the Mumps virus reported in the state over the past few weeks. In order to minimize the spread of mumps in schools, the agency has asked us to provide information to our families.
We are sharing with you a cover letter in English and in Spanish for families along with a Mumps Alert letter in English and in Spanish from the CDPHE. Please share this valuable information with your school community.

Mental Health and Social/Emotional Tips

Spring is here- let's start the cleaning!
Here we are once again. It is that time of the year that some people look Spring is here- let's start the cleaning! Here we are once again. It is that time of the year that some people look forward to- opening the windows, deep-cleaning the house, getting rid of old items they no longer need; others may wince at the thought of going through closets, drawers, cabinets and feeling pressured to make the "to get rid of this, or to keep it?" decision. Though it can be difficult, time consuming and possibly argument-invoking, it can be important for your physical and mental health. Let's find out how!
What can "Spring Cleaning" do for me?
* By making the effort to
de-clutter areas, you can actually increase your productivity! Cleaning off your kitchen table, work-space, entry table, etc. can help support a more organized approach to work and facilitate ease with completing tasks. Plus, it may look nicer and more welcoming to guests and visitors in the home.
* Spring cleaning can benefit your
physical health! Do you ever think about the amount of dust and dirt that build up within the house? Cleaning your living space can help with asthma and allergies.
* People who have a clean and
tidy home are happier. Hello strong mental health! Cleaning your space can provide a sense of accomplishment, pride and satisfaction. And perhaps decrease conflict with family members, roommates, etc.
* Regularly cleaning and de-cluttering can help
increase focus and decision making! By removing obstacles (which are often the physical presence of stuff) from your space, you now can focus on problem solving and decision making.
*
You can give back to your community. All those un-used items can be donated to charities for people and families in need. Or you can plan a garage sale with your neighbors and use the collected money to do something nice for the neighborhood or community (basketball hoop on the street, plants for some homes, donate to a local foodbank, etc.)
Now, put on some tunes and get going!

Seniors and families, we are approaching financial aid deadlines. To receive priority financial aid and institutional scholarships, students must complete FAFSA and institutional scholarship applications before the colleges' deadlines. Even if you think you have too much income to be considered for need-based aid, some colleges may still require the FAFSA to apply for their scholarships. Click
here
to see a list of deadlines for Colorado colleges and universities.
