President's Message
|
|
Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.
John Dewey
Our March Educational (EDU) event was held at the beautiful Mercantile Library and was attended by almost 90 members and guests who learned about sustainability as it relates to both funding and service for nonprofits in our community from representatives of UpSpring and the Butler Foundation. The crowd at this informative event also enjoyed an update from 2014 recipient
Literacy Network of Greater Cincinnati
while sharing delicious soup and bread from local nonprofit LaSoupe.
The Focus Area Committees are back at work this month and will receive training to begin reviewing 31 applications from agencies invited to submit grants. There are many creative, strong grant proposals that have the potential to make a lasting impact on our community. This year once again promises stimulating site visits and difficult choices as we work to identify the agencies that will be Finalists - and then select FOUR Grant Recipients in September.
The Impact 100 Board recently set a goal to increase our infrastructure support in order to be able to accommodate our recent growth in members from 290 in 2013 to 470 in 2017. We continue to analyze how we can best serve our members and the community.
Thank you for your membership and making a difference in others lives.
All the best,
Donna Broderick
President, Impact 100

Spread the Word Events!
|
|
Interested in hosting/co-hosting a "spread the word" this quarter? We can make it easy for you!
What works really well is to join with a friend to host a STW in your home, office, or other community spot (think book club, women's association, work resource group...). We will arrange a Nonprofit recipient to speak, collect the registrations, and follow up. All you need to do is gather a list of people you want to invite, share the email registration link and be there to host! We make it easy for you!
We'd love to see Northern Kentucky more engaged, and the West Side of town too, but of course, we're happy to come to any area to share our story.
Referrals from YOU to YOUR friends/colleagues/family are our best source of new members. So please help to spread the word about Impact 100.

This program, made available through the generosity of donors, is a means for encouraging younger members of our community to experience women's collective giving. It specifically targets those individuals with an interest in philanthropy that would initially struggle to fund a new membership on their own but feel capable of doing so in 4 years.
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Candidates cannot be current or former members of Impact 100.
- Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and under 40 years of age on December 31, 2017.
- Candidates should express an interest in philanthropy.
- Candidates must be willing to contribute monies toward their Half Membership. The contribution by each member should be a minimum of: Year 1: $125, Year 2: $250, Year 3: $375, Year 4: $500.
- Candidates should be willing to participate in a standing committee (i.e. Recruiting, Membership, Communications, Marketing) and are encouraged to join a Focus Area Committee and attend the award dinner on September 12th if possible.
You can help:
- Do you know of a co-worker, relative or neighbor who would make a great candidate? Please pass this along and encourage them to apply or give us their info and we will contact them.
- All monies generated from AmazonSmile and Kroger affinity programs are used to help fund the scholarships. Please continue to support these programs at no cost to you.
- We welcome donations to the scholarship fund. To contribute please go to: https://impact100.weshareonline.org/YoungPhilanthropistScholarshipDonation

Cincinnati Therapeutic Riding & Horsemanship Volunteer Opportunity
Monday, April 24th
We have a unique opportunity to "get our hands dirty" while helping Cincinnati Therapeutic Riding Horsemanship, one of our 2016 grant recipients, get ready for Spring!! With enough volunteers we hope to clean out the horse's barn and clear a needed walking trail. All equipment will be provided...all you need to bring is the willingness to help!!
That evening there will also be a Graduation Ceremony of women veterans who have completed the horsemanship program. Following graduation we have the opportunity to join these special women, along with the CTRH volunteers, for a celebratory cookout. We are invited to come...bring a covered dish...and see the "helping horses" in action!!
This event will be limited to 20 members (10 to help with the cleaning/trail and 10 to help with the cookout). It is free and open to all. To reserve your spot, click

Member Spotlight!

Delane Starliper
Who am I?
My name is Delane Starliper, I have been an Impact 100 member since 2004 shortly after it was formed. I served on the board of Impact 100 for nine years in various roles but primarily I worked with the focus areas, which were really my passion! I love being part of a group that provides the deserving non-profits with life changing grants.
My other passions are a "work in progress." I retired about a year and a half ago from banking and now I spend my time learning new things about myself! Who knew exercise can be fun when you actually have the time, or I would never have guessed that I have a creative side with flower arranging and cooking but it is fun finding out.
What made me want to join Impact 100?
I was introduced to Impact 100 by my boss who invited me to a "spread the word "event. I was not from Cincinnati originally, and I had expressed an interest in getting involved in the community but was not sure where to start. She told me that this group would allow me to understand some of the organizations that are out there and where my skills could best fit along with meeting new "like minded" women that I may not otherwise have had the opportunity to meet.
What keeps me a member of Impact 100?
Seeing the organizations grow that we have provided grants to and continue to give back to the community has been very fulfilling. And I love seeing what new organizations are out there just staring on their next big project. As I continue to discover myself this organization gives me a wonderful opportunity to learn new places where my skills can be helpful.
