Legislative Bulletin

April 10, 2017

Dear NHSBA Members -

This NHSBA Legislative Update is an addendum to last Friday's April 7, 2017 Update.

As an update to the ongoing issue of ratifying actions taken at 2017 school district annual meetings, last Thursday, the NH Senate passed HB 329 with amendments.

HB 329 as amended contains language that:  (1) legalizes, ratifies and confirms the elections of individuals to serve as members of a school board; and (2) allows school boards to legalize, ratify and confirm all actions, votes and proceedings held at any town election, town meeting, school district election, and school district meeting.

Per HB 329, a school board may legalize, ratify and confirm action taken at the annual meeting by a vote of the school board to do so, provided such vote is taken at a duly called and properly posted school board meeting.

HB 329 can be viewed here.

Please note that HB 329 will have to gain approval of the NH House and will have to be signed by the Governor before it becomes law.

NHSBA will be tracking this bill and will update its members accordingly.
