Crabtree Casters

Beginning April 5 and continuing on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. through September, is our free Crabtree Casters program.
Whether you already enjoy fishing or would like to learn how to fish, this program is for you! Join park staff for an informal fishing experience for the whole family. Bring your own poles or borrow one of ours through the Tackle Loaner Program. Bait and basic instruction are provided.
All participants 16 years and older must have a valid NC fishing license to participate. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Fishing is catch and release only. Preregistration is required. Visit our website to register on-line.

Come learn about the unique life cycle that makes an amphibian an amphibian, and other ways they differ from reptiles. Meet Lake Crabtree's adopted Eastern Box Turtle, Shel Silverstein, and join park staff as we go in search of wild turtles, and other reptiles and amphibians in their natural habitat.
Spring Butterflies Walk

View some of the early spring butterflies on a walk through Lake Crabtree's gardens and meadow. Learn how to identify some of our common butterfly species and discover their important roles in ecosystems. We will also identify the wildflowers being visited by these amazing insects.

Lake Crabtree is ideal for water sports such as fishing, sailing, rowing, and paddling. The park has a year-round public boat launch area, which includes a two-lane boat ramp and a car-top canoe/kayak launching area.
Launching a boat is $2/day for cartop boats or $3/day for trailered boats. So if you boat here frequently, it's worth your while to purchase an annual pass, $30 for car-top boats and $45 for boats on a trailer. Your fees help maintain park facilities.

North Carolina Invasive Species Awareness Week
Help us celebrate North Carolina's Annual Invasive Species Awareness Week. Originated by the NC Invasive Plant Council, Invasive Species Awareness Week is meant to be an opportunity to educate the public about the threat of invasive plants. Organizations across the state will be taking part, including Lake Crabtree, so look for a workshop near you!

The Wild Side:
The Introduction of Invaders
Did you know that about 42% of species that are threatened or endangered are at risk mainly because of the introduction of some invasive species? Invasive species, whether a plant, bird, reptile, or any other organism that is not native to a particular area and grows or reproduces rapidly, do not usually have any natural predators or other sources of control in the area of the introduction.
Invasive organisms often out-compete native plants or animals for resources such as food or sunlight. We humans are the main culprit when it comes to introduction of invasive species and we can also be the solution.
Join us for our Invasive Species Workshop from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on April 6, in honor of "Invasive Species Awareness Week" to find out more about how you can help with this wide-spread problem. You will also get to participate in some hands-on invasive species removal!
