Dear Jones Family,

Did you know that Jones College Prep received nearly 12,000 applications through the selective enrollment process this year? It is clear that JCP is on everyone's radar these days! A CPS network chief even referred to Jones as the "flagship high school" of the district. All of us in the Jones family know why our school has been receiving such positive attention. One need only walk the halls or speak to a JCP student or parent to realize that what we have is very special. This is thanks in large part to the dedication of our teachers and the unstinting support of our parents through Friends of Jones.

Unfortunately, there is a dark cloud behind the JCP silver lining. The CPS funding crisis continues to dominate the news, causing some Chicago parents to seek non-public schools or suburban options for their children. There is no doubt that a long term solution must be found to the issue of fair funding for CPS schools.  Despite having nearly 20% of the students, CPS receives only 15% of the education funding from the state of Illinois. State funding for CPS has declined by 8% over the last eight years, while funding for all other districts has increased by 45%.

What does this all mean for OUR school? Throughout the CPS financial turmoil, we have managed to maintain our staff and programming despite budget reductions of approximately $750,000. This has been possible through careful management of our resources and the dedicated efforts of our school community in supporting Friends of Jones.  We will continue our efforts to make sure our kids have the best possible educational opportunities.

You can help by continuing your support for Friends of Jones and by joining the CPS "20% for 20%" fair funding campaign.   To learn more, visit  cps.edu/Equality .

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time at  [email protected]  or 773-534-8606 (direct office line).

Many thanks for everything you do for our school.

Best Wishes,

4th Annual Windy City Women's Water Polo Classic March 17-18, 2017

This annual two day tournament was hosted by JCP. In addition to our own Eagles, Lincoln Park, Lake Forest, Lockport, Loyola Academy, St. Charles East, Julian and Lane Tech competed.

Our Women swam ferociously.  On Saturday afternoon they competed with Loyola Academy for the tournament championship.  The Women were relentless and took second place out of eight water polo teams.

Parent Volunteers Needed

This year, the Class of 2017 will have their group senior class Panoramic Picture taken at Buckingham Fountain. In a change from years past, the students, staff and chaperones will take the short walk from school to the site for the photo, rather than take buses (Chicago police will be on hand to ensure students safely cross the streets).

Date: April 18
Departure: 9:00 am
Return: 10:30 am (approximately)

We need 15-20 parent volunteers to serve as chaperons.
If you would like to volunteer, please contact Cairon at [email protected]. Thank you!

Annual Fund

The temperature is rising...help us make our $200,000 goal!

Please consider a gift of any size to t he Annual Fund. Proceeds are used to bridge the gap between what CPS allocates to run the school, and what it really takes. This year alone FOJ has funded a myriad of grants for clubs, classrooms, teams and campus productions. These are the opportunities for our students that set Jones apart. FOJ funds are also used to help maintain staffing and programming during these challenging times facing the district.

Thank  you for helping to make JCP an exceptional school.
