PTSA Reflections 'Best in Show' Card Sets

The Bellevue PTSA Council is pleased to present once again their Best in Show Card sets for 2017.  Each year, these sets showcase visual art from BSD students in elementary thru high school who submitted for the National PTA Reflections Art Competition.

The art was chosen by Popular vote. This year, we have International student; Felicity Huang as one of the artists. These blank cards are a selection of art from the theme "What is Your Story" Card sets are 10 cards for $10.  All proceeds benefit the Reflections program by offering free of charge classes in photography and Film Production at various schools this Fall. We also support every child having access to this arts program each year.

Order Deadline is April 20th.  Please send in order form and check to International School.  Checks made out to Bellevue PTSA Council.

Titan Players Give Big Thanks to PTSA

Thank you to the PTSA for the generous support of the Titan Players' spring production of The Little Mermaid!

Without the support of the PTSA's grant, this amazing production would not have been possible to the phenomenal level that was presented. This was truly a monumental production. The cast and tech crew, totaling over 60 students, representing every grade from the 6th graders in their first production through our seniors who have been on the stage for years, memorized countless lines, painted yards of coral, surf and seaweed, sang and danced for hours, all to be able to give a mermaid her lost voice.   The students worked incredibly hard and the show was amazing. The PTSA grant was used to create the staging and scenery, as well as the purchasing and creation of over 100 truly lovely costumes.

On behalf of the entire Drama Department, THANK YOU!
IS PTSA Campus Improvement Work Day

We Need Your Opinion - Campus Improvements

Please take a moment to fill out a quick survey on Campus Improvements. Click Here for the survey. Campus Improvements is one of the four strategic priorities of the 2016/7 PTSA board. Working in collaboration with Principal Jen Rose, we are inviting all community members (parents, students, staff) to share their feedback via a survey about the physical campus. It will only take a moment and your input and participation is critical. The more voices we hear from, the better we can coordinate our priorities for our May 6th social/work party and our advocacy with the district to improve our campus.

Focus Week - An Insider's Perspective on Why You Should Thank Your Teacher!

WOW!
Hundreds and hundreds of special meals to order (and eat )

23 outside experts to email, call, book, plan and schedule

Hundreds of coordinating emails, phone calls and texts

560 permission slips to sign & return

Dozens of specialized items to acquire

WHY?
Because we LOVE giving students this unique opportunity to learn, connect with their peers and travel outside the school building.

Because we BELIEVE in your students and treasure expanding their learning in unique ways - and we love spending this time with them too.

All that said, here's why you should thank a teacher (from an insider who is NOT a teacher.) Have you tried to get your own family scheduled, prepared and ready for an event? Have you researched opportunities that fit a strict budget? Have you tried to make sure every bit of a family outing meets everyone's expectations? Have you ever had to change plans on the fly because of a late bus or late arriving family members? Just think about doing that for 5 times as many people and for 23 of those groups!

Focus Week is more work than you can imagine - and more fun, with unique learning packed in. Some examples:
  • 6th graders bonding, learning, enjoying nature - and learning magic tricks, improv and playing pétanque
  • Ratatouille competition
  • Sheep brain dissection
  • Basket Weaving and zoology
  • Watching Tom Douglas prepare a salmon while educating about salmon sustainability
  • Changing oil in a car
  • Glass Blowing
  • Directing your own film
  • Learning Photoshop AND seeing the UW cherry blossoms in bloom
  • Climbing Mt Si
  • Knife skills, chiffonading and soup making
  • And that's just a sampling!
Consider a thank you email:  Focus Week involves a huge array of moving parts (masterfully managed by Liz Vandenberghe and the IS office staff!) and while all teachers enjoy the week, a quick email of thanks from a parent or most especially a student, can make it all worthwhile.
