Coalition for Supportive Care of Kidney Patients Releases Advance Care Planning Tools
Richmond, VA, March 20, 2017 The Coalition for Supportive Care of Kidney Patients (CSCKP) has released two new tools to assist patients and their kidney care teams with advance care planning
  • The brochure, Planning Today for Tomorrow's Healthcare: A Guide for People  with Chronic Kidney Disease, introduces patients and their kidney care teams to the advance care planning process. It details the five steps of planning that allow patients to have control over their healthcare in the event that they cannot speak for themselves.
  •  The companion Curriculum Guide for Advance Care Planning is designed to assist facility staff in having advance care planning discussions with patients.
These tools were developed as part of the MY WAY Project, which seeks to test the impact of advance care planning coaching on outcomes and health service utilization of patients with chronic kidney disease.

ESRD QIP Call: Follow-up Questions and Answers
Follow-up questions and answers  for the January 17 call on the End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Quality Incentive Program (QIP) are now available. During this call, CMS experts discuss the final rule that operationalizes the ESRD QIP for Payment Year 2020.

CMS Extends Quality Incentive Program Deadline
Extension of National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) Fourth-Quarter 2016 Deadline for the ESRD QIP.

Due to an unscheduled maintenance on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC's) NHSN system, facility users were unable to report data between March 16, 2017 and March 21, 2017.

The unscheduled maintenance may have adversely impacted the ability of outpatient dialysis facilities to enter NHSN Dialysis Event data for the fourth-quarter 2016 by the established March 31, 2017 QIP deadline. To address this, CMS has extended the QIP deadline for entry of  fourth-quarter 2016 data  to April 15, 2017.

Thank you for your attention in this matter and for entering your facility's data promptly. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact the NHSN helpdesk at [email protected],
and include "Dialysis" in the subject line.
