Confirmation Mass

On Tuesday, March 28th, Garces celebrated some of our students who are going through the sacrament of Confirmation with a special Mass for them and their families with celebrant Msgr. Perry Kavookjian. We had students making confirmations at St. Francis, OLPH, OLG, and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton participate. Msgr. Perry shared a lovely homily an spoke to them about how confirmation is the gift of a seed and, through the years, it will bear spiritual fruit. Pictured are Emma Antongiovanni, Meg Blaine, Leah Pineda, Danielle Munoz, Julian Hernandez, Moises Gonzalez, Priscilla Miranda, Maggie Waguespack, Msgr. Perry, Claudia Millar, Allyson Dunlavey, Hopi Cruz, Steven Contrares, Jack Tobias, Kassidy Johnson, and Molly Ming.
Brad Bachman - Eagle Scout

Msgr. Perry with Brad Bachman
Congratulations to Brad Bachman on earning the rank of Eagle Scout.  Brad's community service project was to erect a flag pole outside of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish.  It took him over 600 hours to make it happen.  He said said it took so long because the ground was so hard. When asked why he decided on adding the flag pole at the church, his response was "Love of God and love of country go together." What a wonderful sentiment from a dedicated and hard working young man.
Lunches for St. Vincent de Paul

This morning, the Garces Parent Club set up a sack lunch making station in MLH for students to come in and make lunches for the needy. Students from Mrs. Limpias and Ms. Witwer's classes made 125 lunches.  The Parent Club delivered them to St. Vicent de Paul's for lunch for the people who come in daily for a meal, sometimes their only meal. We are hoping to offer this service opportunity on a weekly basis for the students as we have several teachers with classes who would like to participate. If you are interested in helping, or donating food items for the sack lunches, please contact the Parent Club President, Michelle Pisano, Campus Minister Brian Cobb, or Parent Club Moderator Lou Ann Durrett
Ironman - Seniors Win!

The Ironman volleyball game was Friday night and the boys played to a packed house!  It is always a fun night on our campus when we get to watch the boys play against each other.  There is plenty of trash talking across the net and taunting from the opposing team, but more than anything, there is a lot of laughter and great memories made.  The seniors won the game, and everyone in the gym won the night.
Powder Puff - Seniors Win!

The Powder Puff game on Thursday night was a thriller!  Juniors scored first with a TD run scored by McKenzie Miller and a two point conversion on a run by Shaina Looker making it 8-0. W ith less than two minutes left in the game, the seniors had yet to score and it looked like the Juniors were going to win. The seniors weren't going down that easily and tied it up with a pass from QB  Claire Hamilton to Jensen Williams and a two point conversion on a pass to Megan Puget. Suddenly, we were in overtime! During the first OT, juniors scored on a run by McKenzie and seniors scored on a QB keeper by Claire. We moved to double OT and the seniors finally pulled out the win with a pass from Claire to Jensen!  It was a great game and the first time anyone can remember a powder puff game being decided in double OT.
Badminton Winners

Congratulations to the team of Garces teachers and soccer coaches Caitlin Witwer and Justin Finch on the win!  The went undefeated to be this year's 2017 Intramural Badminton Champions!  Every student team was hoping to have the chance to defeat them and the runners up came close!  Shout out to the runners up Anthony Sacchini and Dylan Simonsen on a great finals match.
Lacrosse Saturday

Club Bakersfield Rams Lacrosse plays at Garces on Saturday. The game starts at 1:00 p.m. and will be played on the practice field. Come out and watch a new sport to our community featuring a lot of Garces Rams.  It is a club team and is open to all high school students, but it is fun to watch so many of our Rams play!
Spring Preview Day

On Thursday,we had over 200 5th-7th grade visitors on our campus.  They met as a group to hear about life as a Ram, then broke into small groups for campus tours.  After the tours, they went to the Spring Rally and then had lunch on campus.  We loved having them here and hope each and every one of them are future Rams!

Message from
Denise Limi
Director of Counseling

Dear Parents,

As you read this letter, there are only 25 days left for our graduating class of 2017! Not many days left to finish a 13-year journey from Kindergarten to their Senior year! Each of them has a story to tell about their "journey", some all smooth sailing, some rough waters every step of the way, and some a mixture of both. I hope that each of them can say that their last four years at GMHS have been the best of those years on their journey.

If you have a senior this year, remind them that they are too close to the finish line to not finish the race as strongly as possible. If you have an underclassman, let them know that time is going by quickly and finishing strong in their Freshman, Sophomore or Junior years will give them so many great college options in their senior year.

These last few weeks of school are chocked full of activities for our students. The counselors will be completing a Senior Graduation Survey to track where our students will be attending college and how much scholarship money they have received.  We will celebrate their acceptances with a College Signing Day on Thursday, May 4th.  We also have a daytime Awards Ceremony on April 27th and an evening Awards Night on May 3rd at 6:00 pm. We would love to have all parents in attendance to show how proud you are of your student's accomplishments.

On behalf of the Garces Counselors, I want to wish the Class of 2017 congratulations and God Bless each and every one of you!
