Spring has Sprung!

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico:  80°F | 27°C

The days are getting longer, the weather is getting warmer, the crowds are starting to thin out a bit, and we are gearing up for Semana Santa next month.

The real estate market continues its unprecedented growth and pre-construction sales as well as condominium resales are at an all-time high.

Lucky new Vallarta residents are settling into the transition phase after the Closing.  "Where is a dry cleaner?" "Who's a good dentist?" "Who's a good handyman?"

One of the questions we hear most often from people is: "What's available for furniture and decorating?"

Our "From Dean" feature this month has that question covered.   Take a few minutes and check out Dean's perspective below on the decorating options in La Zona Romantica.

Emergency Services also ranks as a high-priority question. Learn about the exciting new 911 service in Vallarta below and see how you can help get this program off and running.

When I first bought my properties in La Zona Romantica 10 years ago, I already was an antique and one-of-a-kind-shop aficionado.  Growing up in Michigan, one of the signs that heralded spring were the estate sales almost every weekend.

I f you have not experienced finding something valuable - a painting, an antique, an out-of-print something - at a price that stops you in your tracks, let me tell you....it's thrilling!  It may have some monetary value or some intrinsic value just to you. Either way, you talk about it all day. You show it to all your friends.  You call your mom.

But when I got here 10 years ago, I couldn't find stores in the colonia for this kind of treasure hunting. I am happy to say now that, in the last 5 years, I am now experiencing that same thrill in the tucked-away shops of our colonia.

If you enjoy that unique experience of sorting through displays and shelves with the hope of scoring a deal and the possibility of finding something really awesome, we now have some great options in la Zona Romantica.

After the Closing, a happy buyer starts the fun part: furnishing and decorating!  Ranging from modern Mexican to more vintage tastes, here are some of my favorites:

Espacios Furniture Store  - Proprietor: Juan Carlos Chavira

Originally from Chihuahua, Juan Carlos has called Puerto Vallarta home for the last 12 years. He opened the store 6 years ago and has enjoyed working with local designers to offer a full-service decorating option for his customers.  He has filled the store with reasonably priced items from paintings to outdoor furniture.

Muy Guapo Vallarta - Proprietor: Richard Parkman

Owner Richard Parkman describes his style as Mexican contemporary Vintage.  For over 5 years, customers can count on eclectic and genuine Mexican articles that will create your Mexican hacienda.

Old Town Resale - Proprietor:  Julie Ward
Calle Lazaro Cardenas #379B

Julie Ward, originally from Chicago, has made Puerto Vallarta her home for the last 33 years.  She offers a wide variety of furniture, accessories and artwork. Julie has most recently installed cabinets to showcase antique jewelry.

The Consignment Shop - Proprietor:  Irma Briseño
Calle Lazaro Cardenas #474
Col. Emiliano Zapata

Irma, an original Vallartense, has operated for 10 years with all items in her store on a consignment basis.  Her shop has a collection of  accessories currently highlighting a full-size bar, perfect for a patio or game room.

So the next time you are in la Colonia Emiliano Zapata, one of the fastest-growing colonias in Puerto Vallarta, and want to take a stroll that can transport you to places that recall memories or make new ones, visit these stores.  Tell them Dean sent you.

Hasta pronto,
Dean

Join Us in Bringing 911 Services
to Puerto Vallarta

No one likes to think about emergency services, whether you are on vacation or not.  But we all sure do appreciate them when we do need them.

Needing emergency services while on vacation and in another country may feel daunting.  It can be very comforting to hear something familiar.  Almost everyone can relate to 911.  Emergency.

Mexico has launched a program to implement the 911 Emergency Response System across the country. Puerto Vallarta needs help to raise funds to buy all the radios required to fully implement it.

Puerto Vallarta's first responders currently do an admirable job with their current resources of an average response time of 10 minutes.  Once fully implemented, this new system will allow Vallarta's first responders to reduce that average response time by 4 minutes.  Anyone in a life-and-death situation can attest:  those few minutes can make all the difference

MEXICO THE BEST PLACE TO RETIRE IN 2017

And the winner is.......MEXICO!

We could have told you that!  According to the experts at International Living (IL), there's a new best country in the world for retirement.

In its Annual Global Retirement Index, Mexico - one of the most popular countries among U.S. expats - has edged out last year's No. 1, Panama.

To compile its 2017 ranking, International Living's editors, correspondents, contributors and contacts around the world crunched data and personal insights for 10 categories - from 'Cost of Living' to 'Visas & Residence' to 'Fitting In' to 'Climate.'

Cost of living remains a top retirement concern for Americans, according to a recent Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies survey of U.S. workers. Respondents told Transamerica that an affordable cost of living was their most important criteria for where to live in retirement.
