It's the Bard's 453rd birthday on April 23rd! Help us celebrate with cake, games, prizes, and an appearance by William Shakespeare himself on Sunday, April 23rd starting at 1:30pm. Leading up to the big birthday bash, we will be showing three weeks of  Shakespearean movies on Tuesday and Thursday evenings starting at 6:30. We kick off Bardfest 2017 this Tuesday April 4th, with a screening of 1967's Taming of the Shrew starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.  To see our complete calendar of Bardfest 2017 events, click here.

And now, Linda's update:

The themes for April appear to be birds and the Bard. We have three bird-centric programs coming up (and Green Lake's annual Bird Festival, too) - two of which are highlighted above. And since we weren't able to pull off a literary festival last fall with all the construction going on, we decided to try a month-long Shakespeare celebration instead.

The environment and the arts aren't getting a lot of love from the government these days. That's one reason behind these particular programs. Libraries aren't feeling the love, either, which (naturally) hits home for us. National Library Week is just around the corner, April 9-15 this year, and I'm going to ask you a favor. If you enjoy the books, movies, computer access, programs, and other services we offer, please let someone know about it. Whether that's your city council rep, town supervisor, state legislators, members of congress, or your neighbor. Libraries need advocates right now. Can we count on your support?

Thanks for reading. I hope we see you soon.

Linda DeNell, Director
Caestecker Public Library
