Meet OPC's
Career Readiness Coach!

Please welcome Matthew Horan, OPC's new Career Coach. Matthew has spent over 6 years providing employment services in Central New York. He has experience with: 

  • job development
  • job coaching and
  • work readiness preparation

Matthew was an Employment Services manager at the ARC of Onondaga. He assisted over 130 people with employment throughout the County. Matthew's education includes a bachelor's degree from Siena College. He also holds a Certified Employment Support Professional (CESP) credential. He looks forward to working with OPC's students as they apply their classroom knowledge to employment!

OPC Staff Changes
Jarrell Harrison has accepted a new position at OCC. He is the new Assistant Director of the Office of Accessibility Resources. Jarrell was OPC's Employment Coordinator for the past few years. He will continue to bring value to staff and students in this new role. Please join us in congratulating Jarrell on his newest endeavor.
OPC Scholars Prep Continues
OPC Scholars continue to meet each month for college prep. In February, the Scholars met for a Math Prep for Success workshop. Bridgette Jacob from OCC's math department gave the workshop. During the workshop, Scholars  reviewed basic algebraic concepts. They also practiced for the ACCUPLACER math placement test.
 
In March, the Scholars explored leadership development. Scholars completed:
  • the "Guiding for Success Tool" and
  • a "Gallery Walk"
The Gallery Walk is a peer-to-peer activity where students practice leadership skills.

Families attended a workshop on "Transition Age Youth Benefit Planning." Brian Cappon, from Vocational Services at CIRCARE, provided the workshop. After the presentation, Cappon worked with individuals. He also made referrals to service agencies. Discussion topics included:

Cappon made individual referrals for:

  • legal counsel 
  • a TBI (brain injury) specialist
  • care coordination and
  • vocational rehab
Writing Assistance in ANY Subject

Writing tutors can assist students at any point in the writing process. They can help you get started and can also help with final edits and citations. Of course, they can help with English papers, but did you know that they can help with papers in any subject? They have the expertise to evaluate your writing for:

  • criminal justice 
  • history 
  • sociology 
  • psychology and 
  • nursing courses

Our professional writing tutors will work with you to ensure that your paper:

  • makes sense,
  • is grammatically correct, and
  • demonstrates your grasp of the material
