April President's Message

Let's start April with some good news - just days ago, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed the 13th Asbestos Awareness Resolution! Led by Sen. Jon Tester of Montana, along with bipartisan cosponsors, this resolution designates April 1-7, 2017 as National Asbestos Awareness Week.

In partnership with the  McOnie Agency, ADAO is expanding upon this nationally designated week to take it worldwide 13th Annual Global Asbestos Awareness Week (GAAW). GAAW materials will be translated into six languages for a broad international reach. Spreading education and sharing stories is an easy way to be part of the solution, so find out how you can get involved!

It's hard to believe, but the  13th Annual Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference is almost here, too! The weekend-long even kicks off April 7 in Washington, DC, so make sure you've checked all the boxes on your conference prep checklist!  On top of the exclusive academic conference programming, we're proud to present our "Meet the Artists" Signature Cocktail Reception and Awards Dinner on Saturday night. Conference attendees will get to mingle with several artists who are using their talents to raise asbestos awareness.

Toward the end of the month, we'll be back in Washington to double down on our advocacy. We'll be partnering with a major environmental NGO to address regulatory rollbacks and fight to protect health and safety. Stay tuned - we'll have more details coming after the conference.

Last but not least, I'd just like to say - it takes a village to coordinate an international conference and weeklong global awareness campaign, and we could never have done it without brilliant contributions of our dedicated volunteers and the support of our generous sponsors. So to all of you we say - THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. YOU made all this happen.

In unity,

Linda Reinstein

You've probably noticed by now that our 13th Annual Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference is decked out with more bells, whistles, and fun activities than ever before. While we are so proud to share these treats, such as our beautiful new conference website and our group Potomac Dinner Cruise, our incredible conference sponsors truly deserve the credit for these improvements. Please join me in thanking Simmons Hanly Conroy; Motley Rice; and Simon Greenstone Panatier for making our annual conference possible! We truly couldn't do it without their them.
