Clinical education partners share information, ideas at Summit
Virtual reality in medical education. Adaptive design in patient care. High-functioning, interprofessional teams that continuously improve their work. These are just a few of the topics addressed during our third Clinical Education Summit on Dec. 1, when our Office of Clinical Education brought together more than 100 hospital and medical education professionals on our Dublin campus for a day of sharing, learning and networking.

Morning leadership councils focused on sharing information among partners from more than 20 health care systems and hospitals throughout the state. Afternoon sessions showcased Ohio University and OhioHealth efforts to transform health care and health care education. Check out the photo album on Facebook.

Ashley Metcalf, Ph.D., from the College of Business spoke about "Leveraging Team Development in Health Care." John Bowditch of the Scripps College of Communication and their GRID Lab equipped participants with special viewers for his demonstration of "Virtual Reality in Health Care." John McCarthy, Ph.D., from the College of Health Sciences and Professions talked to participants about "Interprofessional Teams in Health Care." Alexandra Kulp and Michelle McCotter from OhioHealth Doctors Hospital provided a case study in adaptive design at work in their presentation, "Engaging the Front-Line Team."

Through our CEN, we're tapping the power of our statewide network of health systems and hospitals and our university to ultimately create "ideal places for our patient care and for student education," said Executive Dean Ken Johnson, D.O. Stay tuned - we're planning a Focus Forward update on our CEN following their next Summit in March.
Diabetes rates have been increasing in the eight-county region surveyed.

Nancy Stevens, Ph.D., was recognized at this year's Ohio University Global Engagement Awards Gala.
